well the G94 used in the 9600 is basically a G92 (used in 8800GT) with some stuff disabled
Disabled?  Or not there at all?

I'm starting to remember the good ol' unlocking pipeline days...

No, My 8800 Ultra is still king of the hill.

You can overclock the 8800GT to make up for the lower clock, but you can't insert more stream processors into the 9600GT
How do you overclock and what profit do I get? Or better not overclock a card?
You can do it in the NVIDIA Control panel. Not difficult to do at all. It all depends if you have enough cooling to compensate for the added heat when over clocking.

Since I can't really spare the money for an 8800 this card looks perfect for me. If it's cheap enough I'll order one the moment I see it available where I am.

In some games yes, in some games no. I'd say its more of a 'shared king of the king'

Apparantly, they have had to clock it to less (per GPU) than the GTS, specifically because of the immense heat that the chip is generating, and an apparant delay till late march :\.

I want to see what the next GTX is going to deliver, and ATI's R700 (or what ever it is called this week).

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

That is so not going to be priced as everyone says it will.

What the hell is the difference between that and an 8800GS anyway. Besides the vRAM

--

I still think ATI are going to be ontop. With the 3800 price drops and the fact that the X2 will probably be so much cheaper and more value for money compaired to that 9800GX2 and the fact that the 9600GT will never be priced as it should be, it seems nVidia has been complacent and still think's it's the era of GTX's and Radeon HD2xxx series cards.

edit: Upon further reading. It seems that the 9600GT is going to make the 256 8800GT obsolete, aswell as the 8800GS. It fits nicely into the £120-30. With the price drops. It seems it's gonna be very competitive with the HD3870.

The best we can hope for from the 9600gt, is that it lowers the price of an 8800 GT and Ultra. The same effect will happen when the 9800 GX2 is released. I think then two or three 8800's in SLI would be a better option.

I just got mine a couple of days ago. Kicking myself now, not just because of the 9600 but because the 3870x2 is only £235 now!!

Then I'm gonna abuse the replacement program and get a 9800gx2.

I don't know what's so bad. It's slightly better in some games and slightly worse in others. With the price drops it's roughly the same as the 9600GT. Even then, it's 55nm and has a bigger cooler. So there's better potential to OC the 3870 than the 9600

What can you expect? THE 9600gt just raped the 3870's in the ass backwards.

On half of the occasions, it even performs faster than the 8800 GT.

Best bang for buck right now, hands down.

Already available at my retailer for 1550 hong kong dollars. (7.8HKD to 1 USD)

Hong Kong retail prices (we own you EU and US, you're prices are so high you suck shit , kidding)

ASUS:  1460

Galaxy: 1400

Inno3D: 1350

Winfast/Leadtek: 1540
I doubt 7$ more is a burden in the US considering wages are much higher than China and the fact that the hardware is made in Malaysia and Taiwan and I think Indonesia.
