Any thoughts? What is the best guitar solo of all time in any song?
Dragon Force (Im not into that old of music.) - Through the fire and the flames. Crazy solo switching between the two guys.
sweet. yeah I was just thinking about that song, alot ppl talk shit about him sayin hes a bad guitarist and hes only good because he can play really fast.sportsman11-2cool4u wrote:

an audience.

My French Horn solo in "Angels From the Realms of Glory."

I'd say Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. It's not incredibly difficult but it sounds just so heavy and awesome. Solos shouldn't be about how difficult they are to play, more how musically brilliant they are. Comfortably Numb is way up there on that list, especially if you consider the Pulse version.
Stuff like Dragonforce doesn't impress me. To my ears it's the sound of wasted talent. Sure they play incredibly well, but it's just a mish-mash of noise rather than anything remotely musical.

So it's videos eh?
Master of Puppets (live, singing isn't as great as on the album but the solo is still awsm)
Tornado of Souls (unofficial video, just listen to the song)
Hangar 18 (song starts about 1 minute in)

The entirety of Bill Frisell's version of "Heard it Through the Grapevine."
Dragonforce...lolololololol...*sigh*
I really like the solo in Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird. Theres plenty of great solos out there, I'm not sure I'd be able to choose a favourite.

Tornado of Souls by Megadeth
Anything by Dragonforce. I don't care what any of you say, these guys can play guitar.
edit: Free Bird is a great song too, amazing solo.

ooh, I love these threads!
Best solo IMO: Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker

Money - Pink Floyd
Free Bird, in case you're a complete philistine and you've never heard it before.
I reckon Comfortably Numb is a better solo. Money is definitely good though.Darkhelmet wrote:

why for the love of god has no-one said hendrix yet, after him, i'd say pink floyd, then van halen
I would say Jenna Haze has the best solo scenes. Er...
Slash's in November Rain is pretty epic.

I don't dispute that that is good, but in music it's not all about the notes you play, more important is the notes you leave out. Generally in metal, in particular speed metal, artists just don't do that, and although what they play is impressive it's just constant noise which although sounds good is lacking a lot of musicality.Stingray24 wrote:

Eric Johnson is very good at the guitar. I'm just not a fan of his music.
Call me a snob. Meh.
