580 euro is absolute max budget:

https://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l310/stefanvdd/PCwithoutmemory.jpg

parts:

Processor: Core 2 Duo E6750
Motherboard: GigaByte GA-P31-DS3L
Ram: : not sure yet. Go pick some memory for me: clicky
Graphics card: XFX GeForce 8800GS 384MB
Power supply: Xilence 500W,500Watt
Harddisk: Samsung SpintPoint S166,7200RPM, SATA II, 8MB, 160GB
Case + casefan: Huntkey C507(case) + Recom RC-8025B ,80 x 80 x 25 mm(fan)
DVD drive: Samsung Super Write Master, Black, 1-pk

This all plus two sata cables.

I can ditch the case for a cheaper one and free up an extra €10. So the budget for the memory is €74 instead of €64.

yezz or noezz?

I don't know a lot about computers but 3g of ram and an 8800GS sounds like a winner to me. Is there a badass fan in there for your power supply/card or is it water cooled or something?

Looks good.

But... 3GB of ram is just...weird!

Try and stretch to get 2gb or 4gb ddr2 pc2-6400 (800mhz)

I can't understand why you want to  buy 3gig over 4 ram modules, is'nt there any cheap 2x 4gig that you can purchase. You won't get the usage of all 3gig because its split over the 4 ram slots. The less ram slots used the better.

power supply has an inbuild fan. CPU comes with standard cooler.

3gigs is fine IMO, I see it on a regular basis in computer shops around here.
2gigs is too less, my 2gigs were 96% used when playing BF2 on vista ultimate x64. I have 4 now,  a bit over the top so 3gigs is just fine.

GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit  or OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 are both at £58.74. Should cost around 85 euros.

With 3gb you're missing out on dual channel. That's all I'm trying to say.

Wait, 43 Euros is over budget?

For RAM which is probably twice as good as that pile of shit ( kingston, not even gaming grade ) and more?
Rubbish.

43 Euros more exactly.

I'd go for 2GB and a GT instead of the 3GB and GS ... even for Vista. Also, PSU looks dodgyyy..

Oh shit yes. That PSU looks like it could blow up when you plug it in.
40 euros for a 500W PSU? I smell shit.

Yes I know those aren't A-brand parts, but it's a budget machine!

- The 8800GS score only 10-20% less than a 8800GT on low resolutions, the guy I'm building it for is going to play on 1024x768.
- PSU may seem dodgy but the reviews on the website says it's good.
- And what is wrong with kingston? A friend of mine has 4 gigs of it (533Mhz), he is using it for more than a year now and it still runs fine.

I visited 2 currency exchanges and got these results after converting £58.74 into euros, they were 78.9058 EUR & 76.3914 EUR and the total for your ram was nearly 60 EUR and your moaning about a 20 EUR difference for a lot faster ram, which will give you better performance and a lot better quality.

Kingston like that is budget RAM. You can get lots of errors with it and its not reliable.

2GB of OCZ 6400 should out perform the 3GB of Kingston you have.

Terror, if it was a budget machine, then you wouldn't have that kind of CPU on it. You kinda went ALL OUT for CPU and then bricked everything else. Which will just bottleneck.

Looks nice, but 8800GS>3850.
And 2 gigs of ram is too less, I know this from my own experience!

Indeed. But if there is one thing that Europe is more expensive for compared to the UK, it's PC components.

A European would be very lucky to grab 4GB for 76 euros. I have yet to find the ones you described for that price in Europe.

Dude. You really have no idea, do you.

I, until recently, ran Vista on 2GB OCZ PC6400. I played Crysis on high, TF2, BF2, the lot. Without performance issues ( and note, I have an E6600, which is nothing compared to the new E versions ).

I'm running on 4GB now on Linux, for program performance, not gaming. You are better off sacrificing the 3GB shit RAM for good 2GB RAM.

and then after that with time you can also still update to 4GB 6400.

Oh hell I do know, but I can't afford to put in A-brand parts. Kingston seems fine IMO, I've had it myself multiple years and I never had any problems with it . And why was my ram on 96% when playing BF2 and did I have lag spikes all the time, and now with 4 gigs installed I don't?
Now as for the PSU, indeed it's a bid dodgy, how does a Chieftec 450W PSU look?
