Yeah on the low E string, then after a hundred times you play it on the A string, and before you know it your on the High E.

Faggot. For my birthday Im getting a series of driving lessons, which suck serious balls. Manuals are as hard as tits when first driving.

For christmas I went to Vietnam and bought heaps of shit, with my own money.

When you are done with three note bar chords, trying stepping up to a Beatles song.

I can play a lot of shit on guitar and nothing is harder than the Beatles.

To get a particular sound, mess with the dials on the amp. The electric guitar can convert seemingly tiny amounts of settings and tweaking of the strings into a huge difference in sound.

You can get auto lessons, but if you get busted driving a manual with auto licence, well, meh, and if you cant properly drive a manual car my mum says you're pretty hopeless at driving.
Ja, its just the first lesson that sucked heaps. Learning first off is quite tedious.
Just did hill starts today, and reversing up the hill too. Pwned it, no stalls.

If you wanna learn how to play other peoples songs quickly, "aquire" a copy of Guitar Pro (5 is the latest I think?), then go here. They do regular tabs as well, I just feel it's easier to learn shit on Guitar Pro

Sell that piece of crap and get Guitar Hero 3!

Spoiler (highlight to read):
Happy birthday, enjoy your new guitar.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

To get distortion, try fooling around with the 'overdrive' section of the amp... and maybe push the button I see there on teh right of it?
But we need closer pic

Wow, some of the answers here are weak. You do not need a pedal to get distortion sound ffs. Nor do you need a $2500 set up to stick with playing guitar. What you have is fine, and is more than capable of producing great sound that will last a long time. Hell, I had junk for 10 years (Hondo strat with a Gorilla amp, anyone remember those?) You do not need anything else for now.

I have now been playing close to 20 years. Ya, I play Ibanez with Crate sound.

Bottem line, have fun. If you want that distortion sound you are looking for, the button is your key. Use it to select the overdrive channel (down position). The knobs on the left of that button are your overdrive settings, on on the right is your clean channel. The overdrive side, the gain is your key. Play with that, and you will start to hear what you are looking for. Start with the level all the way down, and gain all the way up. Strum a cord, or open E (top) string, and slowly turn up the level. (make sure the volumn is set to about 25% for starters.) Your owners manual will explain all controls in detail.

I have the exact same amp I carry with me and use to warm up with backstage. Myself, I have gain at 75%, level at 25%, selecter button to overdrive (down position) volumn at 50%, low at 100%, mid at 25%, and high at 75%. That is a good all around, middle of the road tone to goof around with. Sounds good with any Ibanez, or Jackson I have plugged in to it.

Keep in mind, the overdive channel will use all six settings, while the clean will only use the right four.  Crate amps simply rock. I have the FW120 head, with two FW412 cabinets. Plus, the little FW15 for warming up, and an FW65 for at home. I am a crate junkie i guess.

If you need any further help with it, send me a PM. I will set you straight. Or at least point you in the right direction.

BTW, I would find a local music shop, and take lessons. They will challenge you to read music, and give you goals to accomplish every week. That will help give you direction, and keep you focused. Good luck bud.

...are you serious?

Also, Ryan's gift only cost like $200-300... I pointed him towards that starter kit I wish I coulda gotten an Epiphone for my first guitar. I have this crappy Ibanez Gio... whenever I play the low E string, it hits the raised metal part of the fretboard and makes this funny sound.

I have never played a guitar in my life! I don't know why they went all out on me and didn't get me something a little less quality, but the guitar was less than $200, my mom made a great deal on it.

You can adjust the height of your strings on the bridge I think. Depends which guitar you have. I know in my owners manual, it says if you take a flat head screwdriver to a part on the guitar, you can lower or raise the strings, which depends on how much space you want between the strings and the frets.

Sounds like your strings might be too low, and you could always try raising them a bit. When you play a string, the vibration is rattling the string against a fret, giving you that sound.

But what do I know, I'm a nub
