The new AA is just ridiculous. I was taking of from the carrier in Oman and I got killed by a stray IGLA. The new AA is however a blessing in disguise. Noobs just stay clear of aircrafts alltogether.
One tactic for surviving against these new AA missiles is to fly along with your wingman (the other jet pilot). Twice as many flares to drop.
Also drop flares only when you see the missiles closing in onto you, otherwise the flares drop too low and the missile locks on to you. Fly low and around trees and other structures, I have survived a few times by having the AA hit a building instead. Doing steep turns etc. does not work against these missiles from hell. I pulled of a 360 by clipping my wing against a pole and lo and behold the damn missile does a 360 too and still hits me in the ass.
Also fly around enemy helicopters when you get a missile lock. Use it as a shield. Force em to team kill a helo chocked full of thier teammates. They'll be less trigger happy with the AA after that experience.
The AA sites respawn every 20-25 odd seconds. So one tactic is for one pilot to focus on the AA in that location, while the other rapes the ground units and then swap roles then hightail it back to the base.
this is one of the few intelligent posts here.
listen kiddos - i love the planes and if you've seen me post here you know i object to the entire concept of patches as a way developers react to whining gamers and baby-fy the game. well, planes were too powerful, maybe a little.
things wrong with the new AA:
helicopters are going to suffer. helicopters were already very balanced. A few people out there use the potential of the chopper to the extreme maximum to rape people -(this happens in a couple of well known servers and you don't encounter it if you don't go there.. and the one that comes to mind for me is the 3GUNS wake server). Anyways these skilled chopper pilots are going to be the quickest to adapt, leaving the majority of pilots fucked by the patch. the tv missle thing bad? it's a shame! really changed the way everyone played - i generally think that's a good thing. but it might turn out ok. at the end of the day though i think most players have about the same ratio with armor as they do with choppers and to me that seems like evidence of balance, though my idea of the numbers may be wrong.
as far as the planes go? no big deal. Easy to kill planes now, Deadly easy and probably too easy. But, here's the thing: a week from now everyone will have adapted their playing to compensate for it. Right now good pilots already routinely strafe people in AA turrets (suchhhh easy targets!), usually when they do it (and when i do it) i do it with contempt because "how can that newbie be so stupid." It's a free kill. Well I guess now before the bombs are dropped on the main enemy spawn pilots are gonna have to try and sneak up and strafe AA turrets before doing anything else. That's the main adaptation that's going to take place. Instead of AA being an easy free kill, it's going to become an easy necessary kill. If i had done it maybe I would have made the new AA missles just as accurate but I would have increased the loading/arming time slightly.
