i need to take an image of face, and an image of something like say, gravel, and combine them. i need to replace the skin on the face with the gravel and i need to do it without losing the wrinkles and natural shadows of the face. anybody know how i can effectively do this?

cut out the important bits, eyes mouth etc and leave them normal. then make the rest of the face slightly transparent and put the gravel "behind" the face.

That sounds like it would work off the top of my head.

Play around with the...
..uh..
..I forgot the name.

The drop down menu to the left of the opacity settings in your layer palette.

Try stuff like Overlay, Screen, Soft Light, etc.

Try the rock layer over the face, use face outline to cut excess rock, then set transparency to around 30% (or wherever).

If that fails, just try cool-sounding shit. Works for me.
