You have to learn the rules of the game and then you have to play better than anyone else.

When I first started playing I was over-whelmed.

The game was lighting fast and i was getting pwnt.

What I'd reccomend . . .

Game type : Headquarters
Reason : the objective changes every minute and you always know "where to go"

Map: Overgrown
Reason : It's my favorite.  j/k  the map offers a lot - open space, buildings and it's easy to get to know.

Strategy:  SLOW down.  When the HQ changes look where it is.  Instead of running right to it try to take a longer route and out-flank the opposition.
When entering a flag cap throw in a grenade or flash-bang first.

Take your time and move as stealthy as possible.  UAVs aren't always up but footsteps can easily give away your position.

If you're free 7am-11am EST add me to X-fire and join me for a round of Overgrown - I'll show you how to get on some roof tops etc.

0akLeaves, we should definetely hit it up some time I'm free for a bit of today if you are interested. If you've played Battlefield 2: Project Reality (modification) then you should already know the basics for a must in Call of Duty 4. Teamwork is essential, and just use a weapon that you feel you do well with until you start to get into weapon challenges (if you even do!)

Aim for the kill streaks. 3 will get you a UAV, 5 an airstrike and 7 a helicopter. Once you have two kills, take your time to get that third kill for the UAV. Try to keep the streak up for an airstrike, and once your team has a UAV, use your airstrike on where most of the enemies are (duh!)

Lastly, I do recommend Headquarters or Team Deathmatch game-modes. Both offer great gameplay and if done correctly, you can earn a lot of points! Hardcore is awesome, but try to be skilled in knowing where exactly your crosshair is first. I moved over to hardcore about a week after gameplay and haven't really gone back.

Enjoy!

CQB in hardcore are just pray and spray.
Longer distances you use iron/red dot/ACOG sight.

Not that 'hard'core tbh IMO.

Grenade Launchers, RPGs and close range in a good server really does = "hard"core

Learn this game on hardcore S&D.

Don't play Search & Destroy until you know the maps well, else you will spend more time dead than alive.

But when you do play S&D - P90 silenced + Bomb squad + Uav Jammer + Extreme Conditioning = 1st/2nd every round.

are you kidding? you wouldn't even need 2 hands to come first or second with that loadout.

heres my tip: stay away from the P90 (its essentially the 6E/voss imo), noob tubes are okay when not used excessively  (ie, running around with one loaded, using overkill to get 4 rounds) and CROUCH WALK WHEN PLAYING NON-TDM GAMEMODES it makes NO sound when walking.

sabotage is a terrific way to get to commander easily.

Most Important thing I can say right now is to work on stealth and silence, I've gotten hundreds of kills on guys who made too much noise trying to flank me.

If you're going sniping, change your position after a few shots, or someone will come looking, especially in a server with killcam on.

Not to be 'unhelpful', but just play.

What works for someone else, might not work for you.

..But one small tip: Know when to use your sights. I often get killed zooming in because the opfor was either faster than me, or didn't use his sights.

Yes you are a noob since you just got the game. But DO NOT play hardcore or you'll always be one at this game.

Often the easiest way to get better (permitted a bit of frustration) is to play against people better then him.

That will happen in any server. If you have some history of first person shooters, I suggest you jump in a regular team deathmatch server to get the feel for the weapons. After that, go to a Search and Destroy or Headquarters server. After you understand the game types, move on up to hardcore of any game type (save for free for all, it gets old).

Hardcore makes you worse at the game. 1 shot kills can be fun but when you try and play a regular game you are going to be horrble at it.

just have fun playing cod4. dont worry about killing yourself to be a l33t player. you will just make an ass of yourself.

me personally, i like playing on overgrown or pipeline with a ghille suit and sniper rifle. nothing like seeing someone and poping him in the nuts with a sniper rifle while you are hiding in the grass.
