The difference between spanking and abuse has been covered. It should never be the first option for discipline, but I don't see any problem with it.

I was spanked and I turned out fine and think I'm a good person. It's the kids that aren't spanked because their parents are pussies that are running around wreaking havoc and throwing 500-person parties where people's cars get demolished and then the next day on the news everyone can see that they're a douchebag.
Spanking is HOT!!!
This is why kids have no discipline, because they aren't punished for their actions when they are young, so they think they can get away with anything, yes, it should be allowed if you ask me.
man i got some serious licks of my old man when i was a child. I hate my dickhead culture.
Blackbelts are just whitebelts who have never quit.
I was never spanked, hit or anything like that and neither will my children.Mitch wrote:

It's bullshit, and its the pussification of americas young adults.
There are loads of other better ways to discipline your children. Some great ones have been mentioned here already.
Not allowed to play with other kids for a day makes you think about what you did. Hitting makes you fear your parents.
I've never spanked my kids, not because of any strange rule or choice I made, I simply have never felt enough anger that would motivate me towards being violent to my own children.
I've simply never felt the need.
I guess ideas and care predominate our home atmosphere; and it shows in my kid's behaviors and attitudes. Spanking is unnecessary unless your ill-equipped in the brain and/or emotion department(s) to deal with the psychology of children (of ignorants; of emerging/growing/changing personalities). I laugh when I think about how idiotic spanking is, and how it only becomes necessary when your limitations as a person are stressed, thoughtfulness/mindfulness gets set aside as frustration mounts (me right know--> LMAO, just thinking about!).
Wouldn't it be funny if nurses could spank a person who shows up to the emergency ward at the hospital, and gets out of line; misbehaves; when they are there for care... man, I could tell you some of things that go on in the emergency room!!! The whacked-out childish behavior is sometimes beyond belief, anyways I won't, onto the IMO:
Spanking is stupid.
Spanking is a mild form of violence, most kids can get over easily.
Violent spankings/beatings are not something kids usually get over.
Spanking is unnecessary until you think it is necessary. It is inherently an unnecessary idea, a necessity borne of internal frustration, anger, etc.
Spanking will not better a child, who suffers from an natural chemical/emotional unbalance.
Spanking will not better the naturally social altruistic leaning child.
Spanking as discipline, is an idea that belongs to those who ascribe to an ignorant narrow & archaic worldview.

Im gonna make it a point never to lose my cool in front of my daughter. Ive got an anger problem and I think the fear of getting me upset is good enough to keep her in line. Let her mother handle the discipline.
Wrong but not necessarily marking kids violent...
null vote.
null vote.
Spanking doesn't make kids violent, excessive spanking does. If you get whacked for every little thing you will become a product of that imo.
I got spanked twice in my life as a child... and I deserved both of them. My parents saved spanking for the real big fuck-ups so I would remember and NOT DO IT AGAIN.
Worked perfectly and I'll do the same for my kids.

tbh im like 16 ....and theres a shit load of arrogant abusive idiots in the years below me and my sixthform skwl, who just dont know when to shutup...kids who clearly werent spanked.
Coming from a teenagers point of view here, its definitely right, teaches respect and discipline, theres nothing wrong with it ...and by the majority of thoughts throughout this thread, its clear that the majority have had no effects in later life, i.e violence etc.
theres to much bible bashing around which prevents it i mean ffs, kids should be taught the lesson in early life to prevent continuation of their habbits in later life on a much greater scale. Spare the christianity and sort the kids lives out.

you don't need to slap a kid in order to get discipline or obedience. There are way more effective ways. I dissaprove of this; when I was young I got some serious beatings; if I get kids I will never, ever hit them. Ever.

The type of parents you're talking about just aren't strict enough at all, neither can they teach their kids proper manners the way they're going around. The first things you learn your kids are crucial, at a young age learning things provides the base for how they will act when they're in their teens.Bull3t wrote:

Trust me beating them just doesn't solve anything, I know that all too well.

Of course, you get frustrated/angry and result to more physical/violent means. It's totally logical.Bull3t wrote:

Utilizing spanking doesn't automatically mean one is frustrated or angry.
Time out stool.Bull3t wrote:

I was never spanked or hit for discipline so I would say it makes kids violent
