You can eat anything.  Provided it doesn't tear stitches, if there are any, or isn't too much liquid it just drools out of your mouth.

I had 14 teeth and a section of jaw bone removed.  I got some goddamn Burger King after I got out of my coma

so, for just one tooth, anything's fine.

Get wasted.

Everyone knows it's the best solution, they just don't wanna say it.

I recommend pasta or soup. Don't have to chew much.
I remember when my wisdom teeth were pulled out. I got the first time 4 shots of something, so that the drunk bastard calling himself a dentist could pull the tooth out without making me wanna kill him that much (army provides fine healthcare, an idiot who was put in the garrison drunk tank for almost demolishing his dental office one fine summer weekend). But it was fun. My jaw was hanging on the left side like a Kazak pussy because all them injections in my face and blood was running like a red 11 nosebleed. The second time I went to a REAL dentist. No gore that time. And now 9 years later I'm happy and just 0,5 stupid because I have two of my wifdom teef left. Yay!

I had a tooth taken out a while ago (rear molar) because I fractured it quite badly in an accident...

You have to leave the gaping bleeding hole for several hours in order for the blood to clot. Don't spit, don't drink 'vigorously', don't chew, don't suck on straws... don't do anything that could possibly dislodge or upset the blood clot. Take this dentist-advice very seriously-- if the blood clot becomes dislodged and the hole doesn't bleed again, then you're left with a condition known as 'dry socket'. It's comparable to having great discomfort paired with the smell of dead bodies. Really not very nice having an inch-deep hole that exposes dry bone socket in your mouth...

As for treatment and care: Rinse your mouth 1-2 times per day with warm saltwater wash. Tastes and sounds disgusting, but the salt solution makes the wound heal very quickly, and also promotes good hygiene. The last thing you want is for the hole to become infected by some nasty infection/bacteria. Eat on the opposite side of your mouth, avoid lots of physical contact and rough-rinsing, and general be careful for the next week or two. Within a few months the gum will have healed to the point where you'll barely notice that there was a tooth there at all.

Take it easy!

Do NOT eat curry for a few weeks until it's healed over fully. I failed at that when I got an infected one removed, and GOD does masala sauce hurt when applied to a healing gum.
