I was browsing the web when suddenly a popsays something like "You must update windows" or something and I'm like ok, download. Then this program turns out to be a fake Virus protection program and says I have trojans. I open AVG and find 3. This program gave me the viruses and when I uninstalled it, it stayed on my taskbar. It is circled in red. When I click it, it brings up some page on IE. What should I do?

EDIT: Picture

Oh, and it can't be legit because that toolbar on IE7 is new, I've never seen it and Opera in my defualt browser, not IE..

That. Is what most people call a Trojan that got into your computer and Started popping up ads for it's "Virus" Protection, and for you to buy it.

Try downloading Ad-aware, and Spybot S&D

Install/run those, and they should find it.

Sorry to say, but you can't be very smart if you fall for something like that.

Get a real, known anti-virus program (AVG, ZoneAlarm, Panda, Norton etc) to remove that one, wich is doing the opposite of an anti-virus program.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

NEVER click a 'security' pop up in a browser, unless you're 100% sure it's your own antivirus software.

Download Ad-aware, Spybot search&destroy and a free antivirus like AVG.
Scan with all those and read my above statement once more

Norton probably would do it, actually.   Just not cleanly.

I have another suggestion.  Go to system restore, and restore before the day you got the virus.  That deletes its registry keys (I think).  Then run the virus scanner to clean up.

I remember getting spy sheriff or something like that.
I e-mailed the fucking anti virus company telling them I was going to sue them for illegal advertising... they e-mailed me back saying they didn't cause the problem (yeah right).
Strangely enough, they told me how to fix the problem and even sent me a exe file to do so automatically. It worked.

Get the program SmitFraudFix from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/smitfraudfix.php

A person at the office got this trojan the other week and the only way I found to remove it was to use this handy little program.

Ok, lets get something straight. Any anti virues which pops up at you is not a good or safe one.

NOD32, AVG, Norton etc etc are the ones that are legit.

You also want a registry cleaner and a decent spyware remover.

I find these are the best utilities ever. I use Registry Booster and SpyEraser. Work a wonder.

I hope that helps you.
