And wouldn't you know those random stops aren't actually random? As a result of numurous lawsuits, random stops (even DUI checkpoints) were ruled unconstitutional as a violation of the 4th amendment. Point being that certain measures (such as a lock on your door) are comfort icons. If someone wanted to break into your house, you think a lock on a door would stop them? You think the thought of a gun will stop them? It obviously doesn't, looking at the amount of crime around the country. People are idiots. In the idea of gun control legislation, people always bring up the idea of not punishing the responsible people to deal with the criminals. Well, why would people support this type of action when it could be seen as punishing law abiding citizens (through the forced gathering of biometric data/submitting personal info otherwise not publicly available) to combat crime?
