I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop and every time I run Battlefield a black screen appears and Battlefield crashes back to the desktop.
Alright the system specs are as follows:
1.99GB RAM
Intel Dual Processor @ 1.8 GHz
Mobile Intel (R) 965 Express Chipset Family

358 MB available graphics memory
0 MB dedicated graphics
128 MB dedicated system
230 MB shared system

DirectX 9.0

Ok what the fuck is going on?

Seriously, it's better just to go to the support page, because the first person that looks at this problem has an idea or two how to solve this problem. Unfortunatly on bf2s, not everyone knows the answer. I'm just trying to recommending it to you.

Does your laptop have a graphics card in it?  Sounds to me like you don't and the onboard graphics aren't good enough to run the game.

I'd agree that it sounds like you need a video card mate.  On board graphics aren't much good for games, even some of the lower end video cards wont support BF2.

Have you had it running before? According to Intel:

Battlefield 2* game is playable on the IntelĀ® G965 Express Chipset and Mobile IntelĀ® GM965 Express Chipset. Based on extensive testing, Intel suggest using the following game setting values for an optimal experience on this game:

Video options:

    * Display Mode = 800x600 @ 60Hz
    * Overall Quality = Low (becomes Custom)

Custom quality:

    * Terrain = Low
    * Effects = Low
    * Geometry = Low
    * Texture = Low
    * Lighting = Low
    * Dynamic Shadows = Off
    * Dynamic Light = Off
    * Anti-Aliasing = Off
    * Texture Filtering = Low
    * View Distance Scale = 75%

The wonders of google...Anyway, try lowering your resolution to 800x600 via the shortcut. Also run BF2 in a window so you can see any errors.
