I just installed an 8800GT in my friend's system (32-bit Vista), and tried to run CoD4 multiplayer. When it started up, it prompted me to readjust optimal settings, which I did. After this, it attempted to start up, but only turned black, showed a circle (the Vista cursor), and then gave me a message stating iw3mp.exe has stopped working. Every subsequent attempt to start the game fails as well. How could I fix this?
Look on the activision support forums, be certain that all video card drivers are up-to-date, and reinstall the game. I had a problem where it would crash while loading the first level. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game, now it works fine.

did you install a vista 32 bit nvidia 8800 gt driver?

Yeah make sure you have the newest driver from Nvidia's website . . . if it still doesn't work try a reinstall.
