Me and a friend just installed X-fire. I'm having no problems what so ever, yet I can not open BF2 from x-fire.
The problem is my Friend is having serious lag when starting bf2 from xfire and using the in game chat.
We like the in game chat idea in xfire, since it can be hard for my Friend to take notice of the BF2 in game chat. But the little black box really helps taking notice.
The lag is so serious that he have to restart over and over.
You people know any solutions ? perhaps i should just start BF from outside x-fire and then use the xfire in game chat ?
or
- firewall problem ?
- x-fire doesn't match BF2 ?
- or .... ?

He has a great connection and new computer so it´s not a hardware issue.

I have search on this topic and could not find any answers. If they are already there, then please just send me the link if you know it.

Thanks.

At least your in game chat works. Mine just stopped working one day and no matter what i've tried it won't come back.

Otherwise, If you can launch BF2 from outside x-fire and still use the in game chat without any lag then just do that. If that still causes lag then i'm not sure what the problem might be. I always turned my firewall off when playing BF2 because even when it allowed all traffic through, it would still increase my pings drastically, so that could be it.

Have you tried the x-fire support forums?? They seem to be well populated and the admins/techies are quite helpful.

Hi thanks for your answer. The thougth of closing down the firewall is not that charming, i think. Your advise regarding the x-fire forums I will try. Havent giving it any thougth. My in game chat and x-fire gives no problems but I'm also starting BF2 from "outside". It´s my friends who does immediately after he tries to type a message..

Have a nice x-mas

I don't even run a firewall anymore. I removed it because it was slowing down my computer too much. If your careful when surfing the net you won't have any problems. Although if other people use the computer then you can't always help that. For short periods you should be fine.

Good luck with the xfire forums and merry christmas to you too.

Your silly....

See right know you've told people you dont have a firewall, they hunt you down and bang your gone, oh well

regarding xfire into BF2

You know the "Connecting to account server"?

Well it normally does that automatically when you go into a server from xfire, and thus feels like it has lagged and died... just a black screen for 2 minutes does scare ya, lol

Friends always complain they lag due to xfire, but i dont personally

What i suggest, is set BF2 to a high priority program, thus windows will look at it first before xfire....

May lagg down xfire, but not your game.....

(To do this there is 2 ways...)

OPTION ONE

Open BF2

Alt+Tab

Go Ctrl+Alt+Del

Go to processes

Right click BF2.exe

Go set priority>High

The bad thing about this is that you have to do it everytime.....

OPTION 2

Making Battlefield 2 automatically a High Priority Application

How does this work?

Windows shares out its resources and memory between its programs equally. It also runs its own background tasks using the "System Idle Process". By Increasing the priority of an application, Windows provides more Memory to that application, and takes memory away from it's own tasks such as the "System Idle Process". You can change the priority of an application by going to ctrl+alt+delete and changing it manually, or you can set up this file to automatically launch the program as a High Priority Application, without you touching a thing!

How do you do it?

Step 1: FInd the BF2 directory again, the default is C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 the BF2 directory (common: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2)

Step 2: Right click anywhere in this folder and click New then Text Document

Step 3: Right click on the newly created file and rename it to bf2.bat, The file should then turn into a little cog. If it doesn't, you will need to uncheck the 'Hide extensions for known file types' option checked in Tools > Folder options > View.

Step 4: Right click your newly created bf2.bat and click Edit

Step 5: Copy and paste the following into the notepad window that opens:

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2"
start /high BF2.exe +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

Don't forget, if you installed BF2 to a different directory than C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 then adjust it accordingly.

Step 6: Save your changes and close the Notepad window.

Step 7: Right click the new bf2.bat and click Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)

Step 8: Goto your desktop, and right click the new shortcut, then click properties.

Step 9: Click on the "Change Icon" Button, and goto your game directory "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2" and double click on your BF2.exe (or BF21.exe) This makes the shortcut have a real icon, not necessary, but makes it look way better.

Step 10: Right click on the shortcut and rename it to "Battlefield 2" or whatever you want really.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: For some putting it on high makes it worst performance, so try doing it on low as well if you encounter problems

He's most likely downloading from XFire.
XFire does that when you install due to all the games being 'detected' - It automatically installs the latest patch, check under 'Files' in XFire and see if he's downloading.

That unfortunately also stops PnkPstrB.exe from getting information sent/recieved properly. So if you get PunkBuster kicks like "PnkPstrB.exe" heartbeats stopped", "PnkPstrB.exe initializion failed", or "PnkPstrB.exe handshaking failed", I suggest you change the priority back.

I've had that problem with a few games.

Not really, he didn't give his IP yet.  Let's wait a little while and see.

I'm not goin to give out my IP and tbh i don't care about what happens to this POS computer. It has served it's pupose and my new comp is being built right now. If someone screws me royally then shit happens. It's not like i give any sensitive info out, unless you call forum account passwords sensitive.

On topic however, increasing the priority of the BF2 process causes me to have punkbuster issues. I tried it once to test for any performance boost and constantly got kicked by PB

Rod

p.s. I'm not five you know. I'm fully aware of what could happen, i just don't care. So stop asking about my IP and try and stay on topic. The guys asking for help.

There is also a function for reducing the bandwidth throttle on X-Fire.  Cant remember where it is - but its fairly easy to find - maybe check that - and make sure its not set too high...
