I would go for a better graphics card, if you are still on a tighter budget take atleast the 8800GT 256 MB instead of that 8600GTS 256 MB. I mean it's actually a too little memory amount (especially the only 128 bit width on the 8600GTS) but yea for $1000...

I don't see a PSU in that configuration?

and 8600GT's suck dick, go swap it for a 8800GT for a few bucks more....

edit: ditch the pricey antec case, choose a cheaper good looking case and use the money for a 8800GT...

Drop the quadcore and get a cheaper case if you can't afford a more expensive vid card like the 8800GT

Yer, only the GFX needs a push up.....

Its probably better to save for a month longer to get a 8800 than to rush it know and then NEED to buy it later next year due to a new game you want....

My tips:

Don't get a Q6600, get a 2.5 GHz Q9300 when it comes out in Q1 '08. Lower price, better quality and results.

Up your GFX card to an 8800 GT and then later you can add another one and SLi 'em.

Wait until the Antec 900 has a good rebate (like now) to buy it.

Where's your OS? If you don't have a new one ready, get Vista Home Premium. Forget what the haters say, I LOVE vista. While I'm playing in DX10 they're all bitching and moaning.

The Antec 900 case is a great case... It moves a lot of air to keep things cool... and I would definitely get an 8800gt... the 8600gt is a lot less powerful... get a good power supply also...  And wait till the patch for Vista... until then XP is the way to go...not hating...lol

That's retarded though. Why would you get XP at full price and then get Vista in 2 months for full price when SP 1 is released? Might as well just get vista now.

I say go for a cheaper CPU, Case, HDD and get a better GPU with the money saved. Rarely are things limited by the CPU.

Does anybody mind filling a cart for me really quick on newegg? I'm trying to incorporate the 8800GT as well as at least 2 gigs of RAM.

I'm not very at finding good parts for computers so any help woud be appreciated.

I already have a good monitor so thats not a variable.

I'm assuming he already has XP... Vista will be good eventually... Right now its not completely done...

Or you could get Vista now and deal with the various issues and wait on the SP1 patch and hope it fixes all the issues with Vista...

I'll wait and use XP for now... peace

get an e6750 like me.  there's $100 in savings there.  use that to upgrade to 8800gt.  find  a cheaper case, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6811119115 , decent and with the money you saved get a power supply.  if your running one video card, 500watt-550watt is plenty.  i bought a rosewill 600watt modular design over a year ago for like $70 and it has not failed yet.  then later on, i recommend upgrading your case to something flashier if you need it.  but hey, this will at least get you gaming without having to save more.

oh, and i'd rather have this memory : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820148076

Why would he go with a 65nm CPU for 200+ dollars when 45nm quad cores are coming out in a month for almost the same price that the C2D's now are?

I don't see any bashing there. I just don't understand why you're telling him to get an E6750 when there are better dual and quad cores coming out for the same price (and less) then the Q6600 is now.

Core 2 Quad Q9300         2500 MHz     2 × 3072 KiB     1333 MT/s     7.5x            95 W     LGA 775     Q1 2008         $266

Core 2 Quad Q9550         2833 MHz     2 × 6144 KiB     1333 MT/s     8.5x            95 W     LGA 775     Q1 2008         $530

Core 2 Duo E8190         2667 MHz     6144 KiB     1333 MT/s     8x         65 W     LGA 775     January 20, 2008         $163

So he could get a chip that's (said to be) 40% faster than the E6750 and has a higher clock rate too for only $183, or he could get a Quad Core which is probably going to be 60% faster than a 65nm dual core for only $266.

Is a slightly less rough draft of what im getting. im still usure on the processor though.

How does that look to everyone?

also, is it true that only vista supports 1GB sticks of RAM? im also unsure of what OS to get but ill buy that locally.

EDIT: sorry the pic is so small, just right click > view image it.

I've got that same motherboard and dvd drive and they work great. That looks like a great system, but yeah, like someone else said, don't go with the 8600, it's crap. At the very least go with one of the new Radeon HDs (3850, 3870), they're on the higher end of mid-range. But with that budget, you really should be pushing for a 8800 GT.

Also, I don't know if you'll have this problem, but when I installed drivers from the disc that came with the motherboard, DON'T install the INF drivers, it shut down all my USB ports and I had to reinstall Windows.

Edit: Now that I see your second picture... Heh I have that same case. It's awesome. And I also got that same harddrive. I wouldn't go with the Lite-On, though. I've had problems with one before, and the tiny bit of money you save by getting one isn't worth it.

You might even consider getting 4 GB of RAM. I got 4 gigs of A-Data for $100, great deal. More RAM > Faster RAM. At least it seems that way.

two more questions:

There are so many 8800GT's on newegg that i dont even know which one to pick. i have $300 left to spend on one, any suggestions?

also, the case im getting has one 120mm fan in the back, is that enough to keep everything cool? or should i buy an extra fan?

thats it, thanks in advance.

EDIT switched from 2 x 1GB sticks of RAM to 2 x 2GB of A-DATA

EDIT 2: im probably getting vista 64bit but which version should i get?

The only differences between the various 8800's are the manufacturers. You want to find a good one (i.e. the one that has the best reviews), and which one has the best cooling system (some of them install their own aftermarket cooling). I'd go with whatever's cheapest, so long as it has good reviews; if it doesn't, pay a little more for a better manufacturer.

If your case only has a 120 in the back, you should look at getting a fan in the front as well. Try to get 120, but if it won't fit, then it's probably 80. You might even want to look into a side fan as well, if your case will allow one (you could even just mount one on the vent holes if your case has some on the side).

And good call with the RAM. I got the 2x2 of A-Data and it's working fine. I haven't run memtest on it to be absolutely sure, but XP 64 detects all 4 gigs.

I would go for the cheaper of the gt's, non-oc

Memory I would go with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820220269
just my opinion I have a 2x1 gig kit, another gig on it way, and it has been good to me, faster timings than A-data

Finally found the set I have
