The United States Army wanted an accurate sniper rifle during the Vietnam War. The M14 was selected because of its accuracy, reliability, and the ability for a quick second shot. As a result, in 1969, the Rock Island Arsenal converted 1,435 National Match (target grade) M14 rifles by adding a Leatherwood 3–9x Adjustable Ranging Telescope (ART) telescopic sight and furnishing National Match grade ammunition. It was designated the XM21 until 1975, when it became the M21 (although it had been unofficially called the M21 since December 1969).

The M21 remained the Army’s official sniper rifle until 1988, when it was replaced by the bolt-action M24 Sniper Weapon System.

Actually, ingame, the m21 kill in 2 shots while the m14 kill in 3 (Softcore)

M14 has old skool Garand sights and all sorts of tree all over it, whilst the M21 has a crappy scope with all that green plastic shit and laser beams.

I think they ran out of guns to give us so they made he m14 another unlock plus they also gave us the m44 which is the last unlock and is very inaccurate

CoD1/2 was in WW2 so it had rifles and old machine guns the Mp44 was one of those guns and the M14 is a modern version of the M1 Garand which was also in those games, and alot of the CoD1/2 players mainly used rifles, though i would have liked for them to have put in something like the kar98k (a bolt action rifle from WW2), but the auto spam kids would have cried "OMG THIS IS MODERN WARFARE OLOOLOLOLOLOLOOLLOOLL n00bs IW that is like 1000 yeearz old" which is basically what people are doing with the mp44 (which isnt that bad of a gun)

so those guns are kind of there for the CoD community i assume.
