I wasn't trying to pass it off as doing nothing. Most of the time yes nothing happens, but when shit hits the fan you had better know your stuff really fucking well or else people might die.LT.Victim wrote:

Lifeguarding is one of the best jobs out there honestly, the only problem is I somehow doubt this guy would be willing to put in the effort to become fit enough to do it, much less spend the money and the time to get certified in all the different courses that are required.Wallpaper wrote:
Lifeguarding would probably be youre best bet
Okay from what you've written I have to say the best option for you would be to work in a call center. It's crappy work but they pay as well as you can hope to be paid, you don't have to stand at all, there is no manual labour, it does't matter what you wear and they don't play any music at all. You have to deal with annoying people on the phone, either answering tedious questions or selling people crap they don't want or doing surveys. Some places can even be quite seedy, selling/scamming telecommunications services to old befuddled ladies and the like. My Grandmother was targeted by them a while ago and it was a bitch to get them to drop the bill, (they had charged her $300 bucks or something just for signing her up.) I would feel morally obligated to avoid places that are going to do that kind of shit, but you never know really, you can just address each assignment as it comes up.
To be honest though you're never going to find a job that completely agrees with you even beyond eighteen years old. I'm 20 and I have a job I'm not thrilled about, (the cheap beer is great though.) My suggestion is just to take what you can get and just earn money. You can't really afford to be picky.

Not picky to the point of requiring no manual labor or no standing around. Kids these days...LT.Victim wrote:

I've been looking around for jobs lately, getting one this summer. I have a couple options lined up so far. A family friend of ours does the finances for a fancier (not really fancy, but fancier than like pizza hut or domino's) pizza place, and I could be the dishwasher person. Or, I've seen a few ads by a ticket selling company attached to a hotel in my city looking for employees, so I would just get to sit around selling tickets, and there's a chance that I could move up to a better job in the hotel.
This is a good topic though, keep posting your ideas people.

Retail, Nordstrom pays 10.30 an hour here, and if you are out of high school and not 18 yet, you can still get a job that requires you to be 18, since you are out of high school and are more available, some jobs might accept you, such as a hotel or FedEx or other moving companies
save some money, start some business on ebay. you have to buy wholesale lots of products, then sell them individually and make a profit. repeat this process. its a lot more complicated then that, but with your limitations, its your best bet.
or, you can work in an ice cream shop like me, however thats manual labor...

Take whatever job comes your way and dispense with the preconditions. You need to get the work ethos and being 'picky' is a) not enticing to employers and b) a bad work ethic to begin with.
My first job was a six day week during school holidays washing dishes at a busy restaurant. The pay was IR£80 a week for 60 hours work. It was abominable but at least it taught me the value of money.

true words cameron.. my first job was delivering newspapers... shitty job and shitty payment... but earning about 100 DeutscheMark as a 12 yrs old, was a good addition to the 30,- my parents gave me...
i would recommend to work at a bar. it´s hard work, but there are a lot of chicks, alcohol, party, drugs, sex... aah... good times...

seriously though, anywhere that will hire you that's not in the food industry and doesn't make you work bs hours. try a car wash or something.
If your under 18, you get whatever job you can.SealXo wrote:
I need a job. Not 18 yet. What did you do/are doing when you are/were that age?
discuss?
Im looking for somewhere....
decent pay -
no annoying music - (abercrombie , elevator music whatever)
no manual labor -
not at a hot dog stand where i have to wear the embarassing clothes-
and if possible where i dont have to stand for long periods of time i have pretty fucked up knees.
And you just live with the minor annoyances considering you dont have a resume' to get a good job.
15 more years! 15 more years!
Pizza delivery driver. Decent money, little customer interaction.
I worked at a Sub-way last summer. Most of the time I stood there and I got to have a free sandwich a day. The pay wasn't bad considering I didn't do much.
I want to work at this ice cream shop over the summer. I think the cashier has a chair to sit in, and it's probably free ice cream (or reduced rate at least!). Either that, or working on the floor at Best Buy (idk if I'd get the job though...).
I would be a waiter, but I'm nervous I'd drop a bunch of plates from my arm and get fired after one week. If that doesn't happen though... tips at fancy restaurants can be quite nice

Victim speaks the truth, in Vancouver it is very easy to get hired almost anywhere. It's even easier in Alberta, my friends there get jobs at the local McDonald's that pay 18 dollars an hour...LT.Victim wrote:
