Well, here it is: https://img180.imageshack.us/img180/3711/firstprojectwr5.jpg

My first time using photoshop, I really didn't know how to do much really. Thanks to DefCon-17 for his tutorial and Zimmer for telling me how to rotate an image, lol.

Please rate it, I don't think it's half bad, but I could have probably used a different color on the sas guy. Oh well...

Really nice mate.  A couple of suggestions:

Use a stroke: Make a new layer (SHIFT + CTRL + N), select your Marquee Tool (M) and select the whole canvas (CTRL + A) then right click in the canvas and click the stroke... button then select your settings.

Use several colours, there are lots of ways of doing this but gradients on the overlay blending mode and low opacity work well for a basic start.

Nice and simple, i like it!

Needs a contrasting color though. Good effort!

Not bad, a good first start to be sure. Defiantly bring more color in, even if its still limited. Use it to make the text stand out more, or emphasize the main graphic.

Good job

You don't need to use the same color as your render/stock image.
You can always add adjustment layers (Layer/New Adjustment Layer/pick one) to add color and such.

Nice sig though.
I'd recommend blending your main render in a bit.
If you're not going to add anything overlapping the edges of the render, use the selection tool (..forgot the name ) to select a rough outline of the SAS guy, then right click your selection and click "Feather". Set that anywhere between 10 and 20%, then add a layer mask. It's the square with a circle in it under your layers.

Great for a first attempt - I'd recommend getting more color into it, and emphasizing the soldier a bit more. And perhaps blurring the render around him, to add a bit of depth
