I'd say you're quite stupid (I won't say too stupid to live, I think that's a bit of an overreaction) to do whatever a cop tells you to do. Unquestioningly bowing to authority is just as bad as unreasonably resisting it, if not worse.

fact: you could get arrested by a cop for no reason at all.  All a cop has to say is that you were resisting arrest/interfering with his duties and its your word vs theirs in a court of law.  Juries rarely believe the defendant.

If you don't think it's a good idea to resist someone who has a gun, then you don't value your life, and if you don't value your life, I don't either. I don't say bow down to authority, I say you can't do crap if you get yourself killed. Do what the cop says, then if he's the one that screwed up you can go through legal channels later to get back at him.

I don't say this because I have faith in the police, I say it because I have a complete lack of faith in them. (not cops in particular, just people in general) In the absolute extreme of the cop flipping out, he's much better armed and in this case completely physically superior, so taking the risk at all is insane.

Again, if the cop was in the wrong, you can screw him over a lot worse obeying him at the time and screwing him over through legal channels later. Losing your job is a lot bigger of a deal than taking some crap from a punk half your size.

Okay, I think everybody in the video might have over-reacted. Choke-hold? Excessive. Not listening to the cops? Dumb-ass.

So what then? Are we saying it's okay to run from the cops?

Put yourself in the situation. According to some of the responses this thread, I feel like I can go to your houses, and skate whenever the hell I want. If the cops show up, oh well, just haul ass. Or maybe I can use the fact that I'm a minor and say "SUCK IT".

If/when cops come do you want me to apologize, say I'll never do it again and offer to repay any damage?

Personally, if I disagree with a cop, I comply at the scene. Then, after it's done, I get any necessary material to lodge a complaint/lawsuit.
If you haven't noticed, humans tend to get emotional over the stupidest things.

This video was already posted in D&ST under a title of "Police Brutality" or somesuch. Maybe it was lost in the great re/bf2s/oot, but I do clearly recall seeing this video, and then calling the police department in question (someone in the thread graciously provided the neccesary info).

Ok, so there was a no skateboarding sign, does that still give the cop the right to put a child in a choke hold? I think not.

I think that kid is really dumb for not doing what the cop says and that now he has been taught a lesson he will never forget, might be a useful member of society.

Hey, guys, look at this useful member of society, standing up for every buffed up cop who chokes 13-14 year old girls for walking down the street.

This cop was clearly full of himself and high on a power that he does not have, citing any sort of charge he could fabricate.
