Their religion is really of no relevance.

If right wing so-called Christian supremacists cause violence and destruction does that mean Christianity is barbaric?

From what the article portrays, it kind of sounds like perceived social or class issues, not wanton violence.  Not unlike what happens across the U.S. in large cities from time to time.

I'm not sure why you included my name here.  I may agree with Poe, Serge and Method on many things, but I tend to be conservative on immigration.  I prefer Pat Condell's outlook on this kind of thing.

Either way, France really needs to either get over their prejudice against North African Muslims and hire these people, or they just need to deport them.

Letting poor people into your country and refusing to hire them is a recipe for disaster -- that goes for any country dealing with any ethnicity.

Still, your question helps outline just how poor and desperate these people are.  It also shows that European governments and cultures tend to be a lot more functional in economic terms than Islamic ones.

Well, whether they like it or not, Western nations have little need for the unskilled labor that these people performed in their old country, and we cannot adjust our laws and culture to accommidate a small fraction of the population's outdated views.

Obviously, the middle east is a wasteland of ignorance and poverty, but by demanding that western nations adopt their systems, they will simply cause the same conditions wherever they move to.

This isn't new, they've been rioting for over a week by now.

Frankly, I'm all in favour of rioting. It makes good TV, and gives us someone to point and laugh at with a sense of smug superiority, because we're not that bad.

I'm not suggesting that Europe change its culture.  I'm suggesting that it either change its views on Muslims in general or that it doesn't allow Muslims into their countries.  A major turning point will be reached if Turkey enters the EU.  Turkey is one of the only potential members that is predominantly Muslim.  If the EU accepts them, then it is very likely that many cultural policies will change to accomodate them.

Personally, I hope they don't allow Turkey in.  Turkey may technically be a European country, but I think the EU should remain a predominantly Christian/secular group.  If they open the floodgates to Islam, more conflict will result from it.

Unless...  They take a very different approach to this situation.  For example, let's say France does lessen its prejudices and hires more of these people.  Sure, some people will remain unemployed, but not all of these Muslims are unskilled.  Some are still skilled in industries that France needs people for.  If they make an honest effort to be more inclusive with the Muslims, then conflicts will lessen.

Absolutely.  In no way am I suggesting that Europe subject women to the bullshit that the Middle East does.  I think Europe should stand firm on their social liberalism and the freedom of speech.  I think any Muslim who is part of a riot over something as silly as a cartoon should be immediately deported -- even if they are a full citizen.  There are certain forms of extremism that cannot be tolerated at all if Europe expects to keep its freedoms.

This is just going to be a very slippery slope from here on for Europe.

Secondly, what is the agenda behind posting this? Are we to interpret that Muslims are unsophisticated, violent slag on a lower level of humanity? Mobs of all denominations have done similar, if not worse, things to all sorts of people.

Eh, we have the same stuff in Switzerland, where the immigrants always blame us for everything that happens, and think that they're always the victims. It really makes me angry that the Swiss police can stop a bunch of skinheads, no questions asked, but not a bunch of them.
Statistically, much more crime is committed by immigrants in Switzerland than Swiss people, mainly because they are not used to our culture - our culture dictates that we're not even allowed to cut our lawns on Sundays

This has nothing to do with religion. It's about equal opportunities and integration.

Exactly, the Western media sees a riot to do with DIFFERENCES IN SOCIAL CLASS and disadvantagement and turn it into a ratings scoring story of muslim immigrants gone mad.
