I had the weirdest dream two nights ago. I was being chased by some demon-like thing and I ran into a corner. I knew it was there behind me, and it told me to turn around. When I did, I awoke. I was there, laying on my back with my eyes starting to open. When they did, all I could see for the first 10 seconds or so were what appeared to be big black blotches floating around in front of me. There was a loud, gurgling-type of sound in my ears and I couldn't move my body at all. Then I felt as if someone was holding my left arm. I tried my hardest to turn and see what it was, but I couldn't. Then, suddenly everything went black for a second or two, and it all went away and I could finally move.
All that shit happened while I was wide awake. It was one of the freakiest things that's ever happened to me.
It's called sleep paralysis. You wake up, but your motor functions are still in 'sleep mode'. While you sleep, most of your motor functions are disabled so you won't act out every movement you make in your dreams, like running and punching. Sometimes when you wake up it takes a while for your brain to realize you're awake and turn your motor functions back on. I've experienced this more than once. Most people, like you, also have the feeling of someone or something else being in the room with them, sometimes even touching you. I've never had that myself, just the paralysis thing. I didn't even think it was scary because I just assumed I was still dreaming before I knew what was actually going on. But the feeling that someone or something is in the room with you, sometimes touching you, sometimes even sitting on your chest (!) is actually because you are still half dreaming.
I've actually had an experience once where I was awake, and I could move, but I kept thinking there was someone in the room talking to me. I'd hear them ask a question, I'd answer, then look around and realize there was no-one there. Then I'd hear my door open, listen to someone enter and start talking, but again no-one was there. Finally, I felt someone slap me on my back, but again, no-one was there. This was especially weird since I could move and look around and all. At this point I realized I was dreaming while I was awake so I imagined there was a girl under my blanket doing nice things to me.
Also, like many others here, I can never really run or punch at full strength. Firearms often don't work and require me to yell BANG BANG, at which point my target usually act as if they'd been shot. It's like they just play along.
Also, lights never work. The bulb lights up but it gives off no illumination, the surrounding room just stays dark.
