Racism on the Train home

So coming back from the football today from Wembley 4 skin heads get on the train. Great i say to myself, they where properly drunk and looked pretty ready for a fight.

Let me explain something first I'm half Indian and my dad is Indian but he looks more white than brown these days as he has lived in England for 27 years. Anyway they start asking him where abouts hes from and why he has freckles, one of them reckoned he had skin cancer... that pissed me of but that's not the worst bit.

An Arabic man got on the train with a bag, they started calling him Osama and being abusive to him and saying he had a bomb with him. Another man stepped in and tried to stop the abuse by calling them racists. They all then started throwing stuff at the two men, the random Muslim man who looked scared outa his mind and a would be hero who had gotten himself into an even worse situation.

I have to admit i didn't do anything and neither did my dad we just sat back and let it unfold, in retrospect that's bad but what i want to know is a few things.....

1. What would you have done in that situation?
2. Where the men hurling abuse just stupid or has society created a world where Arabic people are accused of terrorism?
3. Also the man who stood up to them, was he being smart or just making the situation worse?

Just wanted to hear all you thoughts on this and whether or not the Media has turned people into Idiots over this whole Terrorism issue.

1.) To be honest I wouldn't really know what I would do if I was put on the spot like that, but I would like to think that I would defend the Muslim person as it is, obviously, the right thing to do. Nobody on this earth deserves to be treated like that.

2.) As you already said, they were drunk so that would of contributed to it, however, given that they were 4 skin heads coming from the wembely stadium, they were most likely chavs. As you know, they are just general trouble makers so they were most likely looking for a laugh. Now, with the media scaring everyone by over-dramatising the current situation with terrorism, then yes I would agree with you that society in general has created a world where Arabic people, in general, are accused of terrorism. But, hopefully, that is a phase that will be wiped out in our current day of media. Just don't hold your breath on it.

3.) The man was just trying to do what he thought was right, which he should be applauded for doing, but yeah he most likely did make the situation. However, I personally believe he did the right thing.

This is a prime case of how Chavs (assuming that they are Chavs) are ruining Britain. I hope they didn't ruin the game for you. As a matter of inerest who do you support? Had to watch it from home (live in Scotland) however I was so happy when Man Utd won.

It was a very good game, i support Chelsea and i thought they should of won but your penalties where alot better. It didn't ruin the game, terrible to see twats like that though, i would of stood up but I'm pretty young so it would have been a bad move lol. The worst thing was when we left, we tried to be sneaky and go round the side of the station, the police weren't letting anyone through so we where told to go back to Wembley and queue behind 70,000 other people....lol

we do but they just breed so quickly, and get into the field of battle so quickly as they're education generally ends at about 11-16 anyway.

its a case of kill/maim/hospitalise 1 and 2 more spring up.

I'm don't know if its chavs he's talking about, skinheads are different I think. If they're chavs trying to take the piss out of me and my friends we laugh at them and then beat them up, cos their bark is a lot worse than their bite, they're pure cowards at heart.

to 1: I want to say that I would've stood up to them, but I know I wouldn't have unless I could convince others around me to help me, as people like that tend to only feel safe enough to do something like that when they've superior numbers and thus would probably be the only way to stop the abuse without escalating the situation.

to 2: only idiots perform that kind of abuse, as anyone who gives a limited amount of thought to the situation knows that terrorism can only thrive in a society so long as a significant portion of it feels alienated by it, as they are the only ones who would be willing to strike against it, meaning that such abuse only encourages the prevalence of terrorism.

to 3: I would definitely say the man was brave in trying to end the situation. I'm sure he felt that if he stood up to them, then others would join, thus leading to the racists having inferior numbers. Unfortunately that was not the case, however, I feel that the situation would've gotten worse even if the man hadn't stepped in, only difference is it would've taken slightly longer for it to. Really, the man may very well have saved the arab's life as I would be willing to bet the guys had knives on em and wouldn't have had any reservations against killing him since they were drunk, but the man stepping in to help him may have made them have second thoughts.

It would be nice to think that, but with a sober person taking on a drunk, the drunk actually has an advantage. It sounds crazy, I know. THe problem is that when a drunk gets his adreneline going, that difference in reflex speed disapears. However, the drunk still does not feel pain as well, so he is able to absorb much more punishment than a sober person. Getting in a fight with a drunk is a dangerous prospect, and usually one to be avoided.
