http://edition.cnn.com/2002/US/05/26/ba … index.htmlDivers recovered the bodies of three victims Sunday from the Arkansas River, where a 600-foot section of an Interstate 40 bridge collapsed after being hit by a barge.
Preliminary drug tests on the captain came back negative, he said, and doctors were still determining why he passed out.
The captain was identified as Joe Dedmon of Florence, Mississippi. Henderson said he has been a boat pilot for 30 years and was very familiar with the stretch of river where the accident happened.

From what I heard, it was just road work rather than structural work.h_w_s_b wrote:
i have family that live very near to this.. apparently, errors in the construction work are to blame. something about improperly poured concrete.

I think you can call it a wonder if any of those missing persons are still alive..SgtHeihn wrote:
This hit home for me because both my parents work in the Twin Cities. I tried to call for a couple of hours but all lines are busy. This morning on my way to work I managed to get through and all my family is OK. Whew, thats a load off my mind.
CNN had the death toll at 4 with 30 injured, but 20-30 people are still missing and presumed dead.
