things to add:
[*]Strip it down
[*]move engine back approx. 1 foot
[*]Roll cage/engine cage/bedcage
[*]Widen wheelbase by EIGHT inches
[*]Bilstein 9100 dual coil, coil-over shocks + 3" triple-bypass shocks
[*]Currie Enterprises Ford 9" rear end
[*]Keep front glass, because plexiglass scratches, and no one uses it
[*]Keep cab steel, and add 6" fiberglass fenders and bedsides + fiberglass hood
[*]Air recycling system unnecessary
[*]Borla Exhaust
[*]33" BFGoodrich Baja T/A tires + spare
[*]Hella tack lights. 4 on top with frame and covers, 3 on front, alternating angles
[*]Beard racing seats, 5 point harnesses
[*]Garmin GPS
[*]Race Radio/multi band radio
[*]TCI Turbo 400 3-speed transmission
[*]Skid plate
[*]Truss and gusset rear end + 4-link rear suspension
[*]351 small block around 425hp
[*]Forced induction sucks dirt in too hard and generates too much heat, so no turbos for offroad
[*]Cold air intake nets around .5 hp and is exposed to elements.  Standard K&N filter

I used to fab Class 7/Class 8/Trophy/Prerunners for a living.

What the HELL is the point of making a PICKUP TRUCK mid-engined?

*smacks head against wall*

Ok, ok....i accept your reality. That's a unique idea.

LOL - In all reality, I'd do this if you're getting a Ranger.

- Do not waste your time with anything less than the 4-liter (the 4 cylinder and 3.0's are CRAP
- Camburg's Long travel complete A-arm system with Sway-A-Way coilover shocks/coils with keepers
- Partial engine cage/shock hoop
- Deaver long travel leaf springs + Sway-A-Way bypass 2.5" shocks
- Camburg's bedcage
- 5 15x8 wheels and 33" BFG Baja T/A tires
- 4 Beard Limit straps
- Sway-A-Way Air bump stops + Camburg's cinch mounts
- Glassworks Unlimited Fenders + Bedsides (possible hood)
- Hella Lights
- Relocate fuel tank to behind cab, centered location
- Any fab shop can bust out a pushbar/skidplate for a couple hundred bucks.

This will give you a considerable pricedrop, and be more than adequate + still be street legal.
If you're gonna spend 6 figures on a truck, a Ranger is a waste of time.  Silverado/Sierra is a much better platform (F-150 if you MUST) =]

I had a ranger some years back, I sold it though. Currently i've just been fucking around with a Jeep Cherokee that I picked up about a month ago. I thought I would try my hand at metalwork as well, seeing as ive been welding since I was in grade school.

I just helped my cousin and a bunch of his friends revamp a 98 silverado. It was a sweet truck until we rolled it down a sand dune and totaled it.

If you have patience, I'd invest in a compressor and TIG welder, body saw, grinder, and a tube bender/dies.

My shop netted over 400k/year, but making deadlines can be stressful.  I sold my truck in January to Lucky Sperm racing, and am now chopping a '54 Chevy.  I don't make it to Glamis/Gorman/Ocotillo Wells much anymore, anyway.

I'm glad to see there are other guys here into serious offroading.

I have found a bright yellow 20 year old Hummer for £20,000 before in a car magazine, but it was made in like 1987 lol. Still if anyone tries to jack me I'll pop the smoke dischargers (I've added those ) and open up with the fifty, then drive over someones car to escape, such the plan
