Actually, Yes I'm pretty sure it does run on Linux.

Use Cedega, Wine, or WineX (Emulators).

So, Linux > Windows.

Check out : http://www.transgaming.com/products/cedega/

It lists BF2142, So, I would bet it would play BF2.

Any hard core Linux users out there that can concur?

Which is why windows runs on 95% of the worlds desktops I suppose?

Yep, an emulator and a free OS is MUCH better than a commercial OS....

(and before anyone complains, I've been working with Linux for 13 years now so I think I know what I'm talking about).

All the good ones run Unix (as they can afford to), all the wannabes run Linux (as its all they can afford).

Then you understand how much more powerful an operating system it is versus Windows.

And I'm sure you know the background history of MS.

MS may be easier for average users to use, but doesn't make it better than Linux.

And like you said a FREE OS.  That is pretty appealing instead of paying hundreds of dollars every couple of years for a new version that is basically a bunch of patches fixing all their mistakes.  Yeah that pretty much sounds like a defective product to me.

Yes MS may run approx. 95% of "desktops."  But what is running the majority of Servers?

Why is that?  Oh yeah, more secure.

MS can thank their marketing for their success.  NOT their product.  (Which was compiled from other companies ideas.)  Just ask Apple or SUN.

I'm not saying they are dumb in way, just sneaky and cuniving.

Here are couple tid bits for ya.

When I bought my ALIENWARE, I got in an arguement with the sales guy.  I did NOT want MS.  I just wanted a blank HD in it.  They would NOT sell it to me that way.  I was FORCED to buy MS.  Did I mention FORCED.  I could not buy their product, without MS on it.  I had my option of XP-Home or XP-Pro.  Why the fuck would I want to spend another $100 dollars for Windows when I already have 2 (Two) unused copies.  But if I wanted that product, I was going to have to shell over at least another $100 dollars to good ol' Billy boy.

And to go way back, I noticed my Commodore 128D BIOS boots up with the Microsoft copyright.

Yes, you made me dig this out and take a quick pic.

https://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i156/Ricerocket93/Pictures/Computers/MSCommodore.jpg

3rd line down says "(C) 1977 Microsoft Corp."

So they had a hand in choking out Commodore, and any other threat they could do away with.

I could go on, and on about all the pluses of Linux versus Windows, but you can Google it.

And I've derailed this poor guys thread enough.

So to sum it up...........Yes, Linux>Windows.

2006 was the first year that servers preinstalled with Windows Server outsold servers preinstalled with commercial Unix. Sorry, but Linux is not a big player in the server space. It may show up as a large number of hosts for web server platforms but that is because many web servers ate multi homed.

Ricerckt93 wrote:

That is a very silly comment. How do you define secure? If you look at the number of security errata for the kernel vs other OS kernels then it is pretty "insecure".

Ricerckt93 wrote:

Again, a silly comment. How do you define better? Windows has better file and print capabilities, better management, better centralised patch management, better remote desktop management, costs less for most corporate installations and better support than any of the commercial Linux distro vendors.

The only way its "better" is because its a different system and if you compare it to a commercial Unix platform (which is probably the only OS you can a direct comparison with) its pretty poor on most levels.

Yes you can. Look.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
