i just got photoshop today and messed around with it. after a little while i made this signature..

I don't how it compares for first timers (never having made one myself), but it does the job of a sig. Nothing inspirational quite yet but the gradation of colour and the picture is nice. The text is nice and would look really good if you had a good background to contrast it with. Maybe next time choose a scenic picture or just do something squiggly behind to add a bit of depth.
