That's a good point actually. I'm not a huge fan of the Dutch. Perhaps having a whole country smoke weed turns them into grumpy assholes! (with the exception of a few friendly Dutch people on this board )Bertster7 wrote:

They're a menace!
I doubt everyone is the right word to use there. I am 32 years old now and when I was in high school I didn't smoke pot but knew alot of people who did. Many of which were on the honor role which took at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Something I found interesting after I got out of school was the people that got high that you would have never thought did. I have been smoking pot since I was 18 and am now going on my 11th year at my job. It isn't a rocket science job, just a factory production job but marijuana in no way interferes with my job unless I get arrested for possession.CommieChipmunk wrote:

Breathing in smoke makes so much sense imho, you know.. people die from smoke inhalation, but in moderation you can't be doing too much damage right?
Too bad everyone who does pot at my school has either dropped out by now, skips all of their classes or has a 2.5 or below GPA. A bunch of our nations brightest if you ask me.
No, he said we could have more money for education or healthcare. If there was tax on weed, well, education doesnt need more funding, it needs new techniques of teaching.ghettoperson wrote:

My point is you think all these terrible things are going to happen because of it. They aren't. Holland and the UK are not that different in mind set, other than that their government does not impose ridiculous legislation upon them. The majority of people I know in the UK (most of whom don't smoke weed) think that Holland has generally a much better way of dealing with social 'issues' such as drugs. You've probably never even been to Holland...buLLet_t00th wrote:

If weed was legalised in the UK the place would come to a standstill, benefits would be blown completely and it would get completely out of hand. Holland and the UK are completely different in mind set, there are reasons why it isn't already legal here and I hope it stays that way.
We're always going to have different opinions, thats why its the debate section!
Clearly they are in the same catagory...all those stoners robbing houses to buy a lid...DesertFox- wrote:

@CommieChipmunk : hit the nail on the head.
Has anyone here going against marijuana looked into why it became illegal in the first place after over 12,ooo years of existance?
Publicly, Racism. "Marijuana makes the darkies think they're as good as white men." - Harry J. Anslinger
Privately, it was too resourceful.
An article entitled "New Billion-Dollar Crop" in the February 1938 issue of Popular Mechanics stated that the hemp plant could produce "more than 5,000 textile products, ranging from rope to fine laces" and that the left over woody "hurds" ccould be used to procude "more than 25,000 products, ranging from dynamite to Cellophane." (Popular Mechanics.)
You may be thinking to yourself, that's great, but hemp isn't a machine so why is it in Popular Mechanics? A machine was designed that, when used with hemp, probably would've created the next industrial revolution. This machine was called the Decorticator and was designed by George Schlichten in 1917. The availability of Hemp Decorticators was just starting to spread in the late 1920's. What it did was strip the "long hemp fibers from the pulpy celluloid (hurds) center of the hemp stalks" which greatly reduced the time and man-power needed to process hemp plants. (Robert Deitch, Hemp - American History Revisited.) To the hemp world, this was the Cotton Gin.
One of the most common uses of hemp was paper. The first Bibles, maps, charts, the first drafts of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were made with hemp paper. In the same Popular Mechanics article, they stated that "government figures estimate that 10,000 acres devoted to hemp will produce as much paper as 40,000 acres of average pulp land." (Popular Mechanics.)

It CAN be psychologically addictive. There is no evidence of a physical addiction.Des.Kmal wrote:

How do you know what I say wouldn't happen? From where I see it there's the same amount of chance of both options occuring. I just believe that one will happen, you belive the other will.ghettoperson wrote:
