The five permanent members of the security council in which the member nations of the UN are supposed to place their trust.

The five biggest weapons dealers on Earth.... and people wonder why the UN just doesn't work...

Fucking hypocrisy.

How can anything work when the permanent members can just veto something they disagree with, even if they are the only ones that disagree? This is why the UN can do fuck all in Israel-Palestine, Chechnya and other regions of the world.

I don't think they'd do anything even without the veto (Darfur).

A logical progression: the current Council members reflect the victors of World War II, but Germany and Japan are also extremely influential on the international stage, but while making them permanent council members would be a step towards broader opinion, I find it hard to imagine the five extending their veto powers.

we need to stop complaining about it and start doing things to make a change. the league of nations crashed because of the lack of unity and complacence of its members. its up to us as the new generation of leaders to change things and make right the wrongs of our forefathers. thats the way I look at it. Im planning on being a part of the solution. Although the UN is jacked up now, i feel its a necessary monster responsible members of the world community must be a part of.

China and Russia are world powers who deserve to be a part of the security council...

They keep the security council from being dominated by Western nations.
