Hey all,

I'm going to buy a new PC. My budget is around £500, and I would like a monitor with this as well.

Help finding a good desktop for that price would be nice.

So far the best computer I can find is this one: DimensionTM 9200 http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/produ … &s=bsd (far right)

Thanks,
Ed

General really, and a bit of light gaming here and there. I would like something that could last a while though (2GB RAM would be nice).

DELLs aren't the best, I'm sorry! Take a look on eBay for some good systems - you will find some. Just make sure that the seller is trustworthy and you know how you are paying (VAT might need to be added etc).

That excluding VAT. Including VAT it's around 600. That's just leaving it stock and not configuring everything. Even the C251 goes a couple of pounds over 500 after VAT.

Don't splash out on Vista yet. Get it in a few years.

Don't listen to him Vista is brilliant. You'll all upgrade eventually, and most driver issues are resolved and it is a lot nicer than XP. I'd never go back!

I think you'll be pushed to find a rig with 2GB RAM and a monitor pre-built for £500.

Building a PC is not hard at all. And remember you have all of us to fall back on if something isn't going right.

No. Do not buy an AMD rig.
Eh? Why?

Also, what's bad about Dells, they seem to be good buys to me.

AMD is waay behind atm. You should go for an Intel Core 2 Duo.

And Dells are over-priced.

This one looks good. £599 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … mp;subcat=

£703.83 inc VAT. It's a wee bit expensive.

Also, Dell seems to be the only manufactuer that's selling a 2GB RAM system at around £500 (including monitor).

What do you think of this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/INTEL-DUAL-CORE-6 … dZViewItem ?

I have AMD and its runs faster than my buddys Intel Duo. If your not going to build a system, take a look at HP/Compaq. http://www.hp.com/
I have one and they run great and i threw in a gfx card and 1gig of ram. It came with a 19" LCD monitor and ran about $1000 US

Faster in what? AMD's are only faster for load times due to their IMC...

Get dell, they are really good. And get intel's chip rather than AMD.

Don't get a dell, build your own its alot cheaper and you'll be better off for the experience of building it and you shall learn how to build them in the future and generalyl swap parts etc...
I  built this but kinda ran out of parts so instead of a fancy core 2 duo i settled for a 2.8 amd dual core as although it wasn't as good it was alot cheaper. not regrets about it really.

Bin that GFX card. You either get the 8800 series or you get a 7900/600 series. NEVER a 8600 or 8500. They are worse than the 7 series....
The rest seems alright.
The Vista you are getting is shit though. No aero and barely any features.

why did everything seem to be listed twice?
also if you can afford it get dual channel ram, it works slightly faster if you're getting two as they're built to work with another piece of ram the same make and speed. it just makes it faster somehow.
