Deviation on the Semi's & the M95 is 0.01, whereas the Deviation on the M24 / L96 is the 0.005. The SVD is 50% less accurate when compared with the M24. Although accurate or Accuracy are terms used on your Stats page, not on the Rifle specs in this game. The same goes for what weapon is better, neither is. They are just tools in a toolbox for a sniper. You pick the SVD in City maps and the Bolts on outdoor maps.TheEternalPessimist wrote:

The SVD automatically has low accuracy. The chance of getting a headshot even when aiming at a perfectly still target you have a chance of missing. I just dont miss in the first place. No matter how good you are 10 headshots a clip is not possible. And lets face it, most people actually use it because they cant headshot.

SVD is great for many close/mid range headshots
Your video makes me happy.aLi3nZ wrote:
Yes, SVD = My Fav Sniper.
the svd is fine for short and mid range. even in cqc.
this rifle is for snipers who stay close to action. if you are a lame camper, stick to the bolt action.

The difference between 0.01 and 0.005 deviation is barly noticable at best, I've never had a problem making 200m+ shots with the SVD.iPoon.be wrote:
Nah, it gets a wee bit more min deviation than the M24 an L9, same thing applies for the M95 and T88.TheEternalPessimist wrote:

You probably wont notice it too much on the M95 because it had a better zoom, but when you add small zoom + bad crosshair + higher deviation, you start noticing a difference.
The fact that the crosshair is slightly offset to the left puts a lot of people off, and the scope is poor compared to something like the L96, to say it has low accuracy and can't get consistant head shots is just daft though.

I'm currently in the process or making a Type88 Close-combat Sniper Video..
Lets just say, lots of people are going to get owned between 100m-1m
I hate MEC rambo snipers...pop around the corner and their fingers start pounding on the mouse like crazy...if it was auto we'd all be fucked
IMHO over 150m it's bolt action arena but not because of better accuracy.. It's because of beter scope magnification in bolt action sniper rifles. You still can try.. but with bolt it's just easier.
To answer to a question of the author of this thread I would say that at range up to 200m I would still choose SVD but if it's rather closer to 300m then I would choose bolt action.

I prefer using it short range. I use it more as a pistol than a sniper rifle.
I have been doing allot of long range combat recently and it seems that I do better with the all other guns save the SMGs handguns and shotguns than I do with the Bolt-Action guns.
On city maps, when playing USMC, I hunt for semi-auto snipers to steal their guns.
True, it depends on the map.
On an open map with only a few bushes, you can easily get the second lethal shot with the bolt-action rifles, as your enemy needs long enough to reach cover.
On city maps however, your enemy can hide much faster and often is obstructed my many objects, so I like to have the semi-auto rifles to quickly get my 3 shots to kill him, than to miss the 2nd because reloading took too long.
On maps where a helicopter often is taking off (like Ghost Town), I like to use the M95.

Actually its more like 500-1000hrs total. I have a lot of accounts and play and play non-ranked a lot. Still yes 8-10 kills on 1 clip only a few times.Vilham wrote:
You just proved my point. In over 200 hours you have only got 8-10 kills on 1 clip a few times. Cheers for backing up my argument. Lets put it this way. I rarely get killed by an SVD sniper when i have a bolt action, and generally only get killed if im taking out players elsewhere.aLi3nZ wrote:
I disagree. I have got 8-10 kills all head shots on 1 svd clip a few times before.Vilham wrote:

You sound like a n00b that doesn't know how to use it tbh.
I prefer to rapid fire the SVD / taking out 4-5 avg targets per clip quickly before reloading while jumping around like crazy. I'm not 1 of the nub snipers who lone wolf ages away from the action, always on or near the front line, always moving / dodging. I find this is the best and most effect way of using it. See the link in my sig for another SVD vid (although I play different / better then that now).
What is the point in going for the head shot and trying to get 8-10 on every clip when you can dispatch targets faster with rapid fire? Unless of course you are low on ammo and have no supplys.

Only thing Svd is good for is really close range sniping

SVD > All for medium range
SVD > All for short range
SVD = Bolt action for long range because while your trying to figure out bullet drop and line up my head I've already popped you in the shoulder the requisit three times.
Besides how unimaginably hard is it to defend yourself from prone diving support morons with a bolt action?
Point is the SVD can in most cases give kills faster and more effectively. The bolt action requires you to have faith that you've lined up a perfect shot on their head and then fire, whereas in the time it would have taken you to do that any competent SVD user could have shot even a bunny hopping idiot three times in the centre mass and dropped him. On top of that advantage any headshots are just a bonus

No for 2 reasons. Even though the bf2 svd is the most accurate representation of its real life counter part, It sucks in 2 departments.
1. It's harder to do headshots for me with those crosshairs.(Really it makes me think of rain droplets)
2. It's hard to resist the temptation to not take one shot after another.(Sending accuracy and ammo down the toilet)

I like the SVD in some cases when there is a mix of close and long range shooting like Wardlord or Ghostown, but I prefer the L9 for long range shooting. I usually use the L9. I have had good luck with it. I voted "suck" but i dont think it truly sucks. Its good for what its made for.
Lets face it. If your good you get headshots ever time. There is no worry at all. I dont need a SVD to get multiple hits to get the kill. I will shoot you in the head at the same time you get your FIRST of THREE shots off.
I agree it is good for multiple targets at close range. But against one its better just to go bolt and just shoot them in the head. If you are even remotely good (even with bf2 hitboxes) you should get headshots.

I'm sorry, but thats egotistical bs.At long ranges the bolt actions do have a greater advantage, but again if that advantage is used comes down to the shooter. I'd like to see you try and even get ONE shot off, never mind whether it hits or not, against someone from a clan like [iB], Dc*, or +.plus flying around like a rabbit on steroids. It's just not plausible.Vilham wrote:

your stats are telling me, that you are not that good - so what are you talking about?Vilham wrote:

the svd can be used in every situation - and if you are such an über-sniper, you should
also prefer it, because you can give headshots faster on urban maps. so please stop talking
bullshit.
