It seems like Americans have this aura about them. An aura of arrogance that says "We're american. we're the best and we, for the most part, couldn't give a shit about anyone else".

Your politics is fucked up. You have an idiot for a leader. There are all of these 'brandings' - Liberal, Neo-con, etc - pitting people against each other like it's a battle to the death. What the hell is with that?

You play the fucking world police. Why don't you go and fix the utter travesty that is Sudan, or fix the human rights hell hole of North Korea? Is it that those two countries aren't sitting on a layer of sweet, sweet black gold?

An on that mention of money, some of the people in the higher-ups of american politics disgust me. There's nothing like Halliburton rebuilding Iraq... nothing like kick backs and 'severance packages' to Cheney. That reminds me, I also hate that whole 'lobby group' thing. Big business getting it's way at the expense of society. A few benefits and the politicians just push the bill through.

Now for the big one. Guns. I'll admit, I go shooting occasionally, but I don't own the gun that I use. I see no need to own a gun. If nobody else has one, then I don't need one. But I hear you say "We need our guns. Criminals have them and we need to blow their brains out at the first chance we get defend ourselves."

Crime. Crime doesn't just 'happen' - there has to be a societal cause. In America, your minimum wage is so low that a man working full time can not support his family. I don't know who set the wage, but that breaches the definition of the minimum wage. The Education, Hospital and social welfare systems are severely underfunded as a result of spending on the Iraq War. Now it may seem funny, but all of this contributes to create a class of people in society who are chronically poor. They don't have the skills to get good jobs, so they earn so little that they can't support themselves. If they get sick, they must come up with the money before treatment. If one borrows, they are screwed from debt.

As a result of all of this, people resort to crime, cause crime pays better than some shitty $3.50/hour job. This is where the guns enter the equation.

If your politicians stopped thinking about how much earlier they can retire, and concentrate on fixing the countries domestic problems, I might think about visiting America again. It's just too fucked up at the moment.

Oh, and I hate the whole obsession with God. "One nation under god", "God bless America", etc. It's bordering on being fanatical...

Well, umm... yeah.

Mcminty.

NOTE: That being said, I personally know Americans out there that are good and down to earth people. It's just the rest of your country that are, quite frankly, morons.
One of the most stupid things I have read yet.
You need to read a bit more then. I was just perusing this topic, and read your comment. I thought, bloody hell, someone thinks that this is one of the most stupid things he has read, it must be bad!!!!!!!!!  Cant see what you are pinpointing. Especially as you failed to mention why it was stupid?

I know a few americans. They are nice normal people. However, some of the things you see on the forums, can grate a little. I am from the UK, and although I would defend it in an arguement, I know there is some stuff that it crap. Immigration, the state of the NHS, lazy fuckers on benefits, with more disposable income than me....etc.

However, many (NOT ALL) americans, put across an image of perfection, a superior smugness, that grates on others. You too have your problems. You are not perfect. The same as no-one is perfect. Despite what Hollywood strives to tell you, you did not win WWII. It was a team effort. Without the USA, Britain would have fallen. Without Britain, the USA wouldn't have got across the ocean. Yes, you did get an enigma machine. Months after we got one, and cracked it.

Cant we all agree that we all have flaws, and get on with life?

Obviously, especially when you can shoot them. I love watching videos of punk ass kids getting shot by newsagents as they try to rob the place. There was this funny one where some kids tried to rob beer, the guy pulls out an AK-47 and the kid just looks stunned and puts the beer on the floor and walks whilst the guy is just continually pointing the gun at him, funny stuff.

Lemme repeat what i always say

£1 = $2

You can live a much much better life in the U.S.A with say, $200,000 than you can in the UK with £100,000. 100G's in the UK will get you nowhere.

Do you know what the roots of that are? They're hardly religious. The King wanted a divorce, the Pope wouldn't let him, so he said "screw you - I'm making my own church". He then smashed up all the old churches, took their money and divorced his wife.

The big political religious difference between commonwealth countries and the US, is that whilst the commonwealth countries have been removing religious references from things tied to politics, the US has been adding them. Which if you ask me, is the opposite of progress.
good point.  but then again, how many splits in religious doctrine ever involve true religious belief.  The great thing about my country and the rest of the world's industrialized, open societies, is the fact that we live in an age where nothing is ever set in stone and progress always finds away to make it in the end.

the stuff that bothers me about all this anti-american sentiment, from at home and abroad, is the fact that people forget that when our founding fathers created this country they realized the nature of man.  when George Washington declines a 3rd term in office, it set the powerful and positive precedent for the rest of the world, I believe.   even the worst presidency can not last more than 8 years.  8 years is a very, very short time in the big picture but its an eternity in our present age of instant results and instant gratification.

If shit sucks now, it could only get better.

Although I really enjoy the shit out of British Parliament.  really entertaining and from what I understand very effective way of government.  the peoples voices have a better chance to be heard.  accept for that whole house of lords thing, but im sure there are important reasons for that.

Very true.

There is a heck of a lot to admire about the way the US was founded and the things they achieved in the face of adversity during the nations infancy. But standards are slipping and Bush bears much of the responsibility for the decline in US popularity on the world stage. Opposing the majority of the world, which the US do all too frequently, is another thing that detracts from America's international image.

Video game consoles are also more expensive in Europe because they don't change the price to account for the exchange rate.

That goes for everything. God damn, when something costs $400 in the US, it's not supposed to cost £400 in the UK. *bangs head on wall*

perhaps the people of the United Staes will see this as a potential oppurtunity to "air out the laundry" in 2008.  It is amazing the amount of good will and positive sentiment from the rest of the world that has gone down the drain ever since bush has been running the show. What troubles me more though is the fact the today's young people are going to be influenced by that and once this generation because tomorrows leaders, they are going to take with them the same bad sentiment that seems to be so popularly shared and use that as their view on the United States.

One man cannot change 230 years of progress, trials or errors.  Bush is just not that savvy.

Well of course Ireland has a different national anthem - it has absolutely nothing to do with the UK. It even includes a reference to the 'Saxon Foe'.

We'll sing a song, a soldier's song,
With cheering rousing chorus,
As round our blazing fires we throng,
The starry heavens o'er us;
Impatient for the coming fight,
And as we wait the morning's light,
Here in the silence of the night,
We'll chant a soldier's song.

Chorus: Soldiers are we
whose lives are pledged to Ireland;
Some have come
from a land beyond the wave.
Sworn to be free,
No more our ancient sire land
Shall shelter the despot or the slave.
Tonight we man the gap of danger
In Erin's cause, come woe or weal
'Mid cannons' roar and rifles peal,
We'll chant a soldier's song

In valley green, on towering crag,
Our fathers fought before us,
And conquered 'neath the same old flag
That's proudly floating o'er us.
We're children of a fighting race,
That never yet has known disgrace,
And as we march, the foe to face,
We'll chant a soldier's song

Chorus

Sons of the Gael! Men of the Pale!
The long watched day is breaking;
The serried ranks of Inisfail
Shall set the Tyrant quaking.
Our camp fires now are burning low;
See in the east a silv'ry glow,
Out yonder waits the Saxon foe,
So chant a soldier's song.

Chorus
