Do you know what the roots of that are? They're hardly religious. The King wanted a divorce, the Pope wouldn't let him, so he said "screw you - I'm making my own church". He then smashed up all the old churches, took their money and divorced his wife.
The big political religious difference between commonwealth countries and the US, is that whilst the commonwealth countries have been removing religious references from things tied to politics, the US has been adding them. Which if you ask me, is the opposite of progress.
good point. but then again, how many splits in religious doctrine ever involve true religious belief. The great thing about my country and the rest of the world's industrialized, open societies, is the fact that we live in an age where nothing is ever set in stone and progress always finds away to make it in the end.
the stuff that bothers me about all this anti-american sentiment, from at home and abroad, is the fact that people forget that when our founding fathers created this country they realized the nature of man. when George Washington declines a 3rd term in office, it set the powerful and positive precedent for the rest of the world, I believe. even the worst presidency can not last more than 8 years. 8 years is a very, very short time in the big picture but its an eternity in our present age of instant results and instant gratification.
If shit sucks now, it could only get better.
Although I really enjoy the shit out of British Parliament. really entertaining and from what I understand very effective way of government. the peoples voices have a better chance to be heard. accept for that whole house of lords thing, but im sure there are important reasons for that.
