Alot if you want good performance for the best bang for the buck you gotta know what videocard will work best with a game or app(I choose nvidia for the sole reason of having 24 tmu's to render the enviroments, And with 20 rop's the data gets to the cpu faster, Plus the 96 stream procs are a nice touch but are'nt really needed for bf2) I do know alot actually, I know more about Computer hardware then most of my teachers.(Their all programmers

I work odd jobs not walmart. I would like a job in the pc industry but it's too cramped already. Like i said my teachers in my school know shit about hardware. And they are over 30 most of them. Now please stop flaming and get carpins thread closed. You and CrazeD turn it into a flamefest thx alot.

I didn't intend to turn it into a flamefest. Sorry if it turned out that way. All I did was post the build that I thought was the best way to spend 1000$. You guys are the ones that started flaming me because of that.

The PC i put together is better than the one the OP put together. Again, I thought that was the point of this thread.... I guess it was just another "C2D IS BETTER THAN EVERYTHING!!!11!!!1!!!11!!" thread.

If you are a gamer and an overclocker on a budget, this is the best bang for the buck on the market.

The E6420 and Gigabyte DS3 motherboard have shown to be excellent overclockers. The 640mb GTS is also the sweet spot for video cards. Relatively cheap and can easily drive 1680x1050 monitors for years to come. The power supply and ram have also been getting excellent reviews from tech sites.

If you see any better deals an particular components post them here and I will modify the list. But the total price of the rig must stay under $1000.

Yet again. Fanboy.

For gaming it doesnt matter simply because its all about the GPU so anyone that says C2D is better for gaming is a moron. Unless ofcourse you have found a way to render with your CPU.. in which case i commend you and recommend you get a job with ATI or Nvidia

Anyway you guys can enjoy your needless flameing of Crazed. Im not going to bother on this board since everyone here is just a fanboy in one form or another

we'll know intel is the best and so is Nvidia right now but this thread isn't about fanboys or what company is the best, we're talking about WHAT is the best choices for a 1000 grand.

(He's the fanboy here)This is the last time i am saying it. Yes it does matter what cpu you have even when your gaming! Look the x1650xt beats out the 7600gt by 5-10% on most games and the x2 6000 is only better in mem intensive apps as compared to the e6600 everything after that they are pretty even, Except when it comes to number crunching which the c2d can do faster then the x2, And since it does things faster say geometry shading on the cpu(Which now the gpu does in dx10) It can output that data to the gpu which will merge it with it's own data and give a higher framerate. Goddamn i hate fanboys.

Then why did you sign up? What compelled you to come on this board to argue that amd is better then intel? And we are not flaming CrazeD we are just telling him that most of the parts he choose were inferior to carpin's choices. Allright i admit the cpu was better then how about the psu? Or the other parts? And btw you know that you can oc the athlon only up to 3.5ghz while the c2 can go way past that?

How can you say my parts were inferior? Because it didn't have a C2D?

Ram si faster but the cas is higher so the effect is negated, I only know a bit about psu's and i can say its ok but not better then carpin's, Dfi is not better then gigabyte i've had too many bad expierences with them. Cpu is faster i admit that but carpin could have just nerfed the ram to 533 and got an e6600. It kinda is since at 2ghz a c2d beats an x2 at 2.6.

The E6420 is better than the E6600 if you overclock.

The RAM is faster, the CAS being higher does not negate the effect. Frequency > Latency in importance.

I'd go for higher frequency RAM with a 6420, because you will want to OC it. It is great FSB OCs that make the 6300, 6400, 6320 and 6420 so great for OCing, FSB focused OCs work MUCH better with high frequency RAM.

In my experience Gigabyte >> DFI. Also the 965 chipset >> 570 chipset. The Gigabyte MB is better, the CPU is also better (well, it has more potential), the memory could do with being better to take full advantage of OCing.

You say that, but for example the Crucial Ballistix 5300 is essentially the same as the 8500, just without the factory OC, so you could get just as far with that as you could with faster RAM.

It does depend, you can get bargains with some lower end memory that OCs well - typically you will want at least PC6400 for big FSB OCs. With low end RAM a 4300 is a good OCing choice.

$999 is a half-assed attempt at under $1000. It's like ads saying "BUY NOW FOR UNDER $100" when they reveal that it's $99.99, not including S&H.

edit: That being said, good list I just think you might as well call it the thousand-buck computer.

Updated the prices. There's like $70 of room to work with.
