The guy makes some good points and some poor points; I think you confuse me with somebody who doesn't think religion in general, including Islam, is archaic, quaint and should be a thing of the past...
On the poor points he makes:
- He's talking about a tiny minority of people. One would almost imagine that people are getting stoned to death and getting their hands chopped off on a daily basis in the UK. The fact of the matter is that the UK has a muslim population consituting 2.7% of the total population. If he thinks British society is too accommodating then he can vote someone into power who will be less accommodating. He strikes me as a bit of a scaredy cat who needs to get some pent up bigotry out of his system - would he say those things at Finsbury Park? His examples hold in shithole countries like Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan but he is WAAAAaaayyy off the mark with how he is describing modern Britain. The British police have the situation well in hand when it comes to tiny minority shithead groups.
- With respect to the burka: if he was a Catholic would he like it if some jumped up piece of shit on a Youtube video was telling him that he is mentally insane and can basically fuck off and die for wearing a crucifix around his neck? He shows a considerable lack of maturity there which damages his arguments.
On the good points he makes:
- Islam is a young religion that is several centuries (perhaps millennia) behind Christianity in terms of enlightenment. They need to do some growing up. Women were just as entrapped and subdued in early Christianity and early Judaism (in some sects of Judaism still are) - the burka is just a symbol of how behind the times they are. It would be remarkable if all religions and cultures matured at the same pace in every corner of the fucking world at the same time.
- Tippy-toeing around your own beliefs and your own culture to cater for a minority is a disgrace and I abhorr it. You come to my country: you play by my rules - practice your religion on your own time and respect the rule of law in my country.
- There is a confusion between actual Islamophobia and genuine and warranted criticism of certain groups of muslims, he's spot on there. It's similar to anti-Zionists being labelled anti-semites.
