I wouldn't say that is a fact nor is it well known. Religious intolerance, in my opinion, is by far the largest obstacle to progress and peace in this here world.

Religious intolerance is caused by, encouraged and spread by organised religion as is fanatical faith. Organised religion is a political tool, as history demonstrates. Fanatical faith is manipulated by religious leaders (Popes that have called for crusades ect...) for political purposes (get rich, seize land...). Examples of this can be found for any religion that becomes political. Catholic Church, Islam as a whole (system of government my arse), those dodgy "pay money for your salvation" churches in America.... As crappy as South Park has gotten, one of the best episodes I've ever seen was the one where Cartman set up a church.... To get rich. It worked. For a while anyway.

It is an arguable hypothesis that organised, centralised, politicised religion is a danger to society and progress. I would write an essay on the subject over a six month period proving this but with the amount of shit I have for school at the moment I can't be bothered.

i was reading the percentages if you are talking about he fact that i said "there are over twice as many christians as atheists", and what i mean is when you ask half the people who put down christian on a census form if they believe in god they say no, they just put it for appearances sake

And you know this how? No offense but you have nothing to back up this theory. However, my post earlier slightly backs this up, There are many people that are dedicated to the church, but are no better then your average criminal. Look at all the mafia of the past. Every one of them claimed to be a "god fearing catholic", but lived their lives on the other end of the scale. However you have many people who beleive in go, but cannot accept the church as the way to salvation.(MYSELF INCLUDED)

dude... since when does proof have to be there? proof is for people with no faith. i heard this story once:

a teacher was teaching an elemenraty class one day and someone mentioned Christianity. she got mad and asked the little boy to come to the front of the room and look out the window. she said, "tommy, do u see the clouds? the ground? the trees?" he answered yes to all of them. she then asked him if he saw God. he replied no. she then said, "my point exactly. he isnt there, cuz we cant see him and have no proof."

a little girl in the back of the room asked if she could say something to tommy. the teacher said yes and the little girl went to the front of the room and asked tommy if he could see the teacher. he responded yes. she then asked if he could see the teachers brain. he said no. so i guess the teacher doesnt have a brain.

thats kinda what youre saying eagal, but stretched just a little.

also... you saying atheism is corrent is JUST as correct as me saying Christianity is correct. YOU have no proof either for or against God or Christianity, or ANY religion.

Lol well your wrong, I have lots of proof that god is not real.

1. Laws of physics, and the basic idea of how stuff works prooves that
  A. Magic, like "god" has, cannot exist
  B. There are no magical beings whom can create stuff out of nothing. The shear though of it should be enough to make you laugh.

2. When you say "We don't need proof, we have faith" Your saying "I don't need facts, i just believe cause i want it to be real"
  A. Thats absolutly rediculous, every single thing you hear, see, and learn about in life you need facts to tell you whether its real or bullshit, if i come up to you and say "Someone found a 10,000 pound tiger in the middle of the jungle" You'll say "Show me some proof"


All common sense tells you god is fake, but all fear tells you god is real.
And we know fear is unlimited but common sense has a limit. Therefore, fear of death overwhelms your common sense thus you join the 2.3billion other newbs who believe in god.

Why do atheists always have to try to recruit religious people? It seems the religious are happier anyway, as they are content to let people believe what they want. While the atheists have an urge to go around and try to recruit people. At least on this forum anyway.
