The lower, the faster. That's why I'm always fairly quick to load even with a somewhat mediocre comp.

... then why post?

it loads quick but i'm 2 seconds behind some people, ie. when i join game and t says round wil start in 15,14 etc. i get there when it's 00 and people have already nicked my ship

EDIT ; @ spark ... tried settings on low but there's a big difference, the floor on tunis looked like a farmyard i'd like to try keep the settings where they are if possible

thats PC's better than mine, in most respects, More RAM is all I can say, I've got 2 gig and new maps load in about 15-25 secs, but you can't really go much faster than that.

try 2 gigs of ram. and get a Sata 10,000 rpm HD. those make games load lot faster

sorry to say, your PC is OK apart from the ram, have you disabled backgrounds, such as firewalls, anti virus, msn or any talk related prog, even your printer software, your photo shop shit they come with. i think there is some tips and tweaks in the bf2 section of help.

Also you have your VOIP turned on right, for a few games try turning that off just to see if that helps, and one more thing, type in your RUN  from the start menu DXDIAG and check all your setting in there, turn your sound acceleration down a noth, and look for updates, best of luck man hope this helps a little

Oh i see you have a nvidia ok then in thats you should have a seprate options box may be in your bottom right tool bar, right click on it and go to performance and settings in that go to the 3 subject and click on each the 1st being image settings go in and set to PERFORMANCE, antialaising off, and the other aplication controled

Sorry if I'm writing nonsense since I'm not a specialist but am I right when I say that the external HD slows things down a little bit due to USB and that BF should be installed on his internal drive unless it is allready there?

bf2142 is installed on my internal drive, but my external is plugged in so there's more space to scan when verifying ... wanted to know if turning if off would increase loading times

Like others said here... make sure you remove all crapy bloatware from memory and 2G of RAM should do the trick... I play on a Laptop that have obviously less power then yours except for memory and I'm always in the top 4 to join the map.

The only way to decrease load times is to get a better PC, or overclock (which is fail during summer)

Not true.... with BF2142 THE most important factor is how much memory and how fast that memory is... Disk speed help a little... it has little to do with your CPU. For that specific citeria

^ then that could be my problem seeing as i have (now) out-dated RAM ... just don't have the dosh to get new stuff as yet.

You have the same card as me and you are running on those settings?

Dude, bump your res and all those bars up to high.
You are missing out.

What are your clock speeds though? I overclocked mine... maybe that's the difference.

edit ; those are a little hard to see. all clock speeds are 450 and memory 660

i run it stock ... had all on high with AAx2 but a few months ago my FPs locked at 3 ... very strange so i reformatted and have left the settings at them every since - tbh ...Imo they look ok

Getting a better PC will include getting better memory.

It takes me about 40 seconds to load.

E6300 @ 3ghz.  I clocked down from 3.5ghz, I'm shopping around for water cooling parts.  Then I'm going to clock it back to 3.5
