No questions please. Just follow these instructions blindly.

If you run Windows XP on a Dell or HP
  • open My Computer
  • open the drive (usually C) on which you have your system files, documents & settings etc.
  • open the folder i386
  • scroll down until you find title.wma
  • play this file

This is the song you hear when first installing Windows XP. After that, it's lost to the ages.

Effectively, go to C:\i386\title.wma, or alternatively, search "windows welcome" using the limiter "pictures and music files"

If you don't use a Dell or HP, find it at C:\WINDOWS\system32\oobe\images

To all those people for whom it didn't work, what version of Windows XP are you using? Maybe it's only for the Home Edition.

Change the name of it to title.wma, should work then.

Most likely. I've got the other version and there is no i386 folder , at least not on my c drive.

I tried to change, but the file is compressed so it wont work. However i downloaded it from somewhere, isnt it the "installing windows" tune?

Actually, the story goes that when I was installing XP I heard this really nice music in the background. After installing it, I thought I might find it so I can put it in my normal playlist. So I searched "windows welcome" using the search function.

And I thought that i386 is a vital folder for Windows? How come some people don't even have this folder? (Namely, Laidbackninja )

Do you happen to have a Dell or HP?

I found mine in the oobe folder, on both my Toshiba s-s-s-Satellite and custom built desktop.

I couldn't find anything like that in Vista, but I did find a whole lot of files in a jiberish folder:
