Do you think child abduction cases get more attention in the press when the child is white and cute? I do. I think it's tragic that many other kids go without their face ever making it to the national spotlight. I certainly don't think Maeleine is getting more attention than she deserves. I am only saying many many kids get far less attention than they deserve.

I think she is. Bloody hell this shit happens all the time. And it's not like it was a dramatic abduction. The parents just left her and went for a drink or something, nothing special. This is what everyone means by the media are a bunch of retards.

You get footballers like Ronaldo and David fucking Beckham saying stuff about it on TV. Honestly who gives a toss. One fucking girl, big deal. Two children were murdered in London not long ago, but no they don't give a shit. It was in South London, they were probably black so the media doesn't really care much.

And let's be real here. This girl is getting more attention than 9/11 or 7/7 did. If she was abducted without malicious intent. She would've been returned by now. I'm not saying anything else.

Sad but true I'm afraid.Its allot like the quints that were born a few years back got huge media coverage, and some black quints were born several years prior with no coverage at all.

I'm from Eugene too. Remember Brooke Wilberger (spelling?)? White, somewhat attractive, got tons of coverage despite there being 4 filed missing persons reports in or around Eugene during that span...
I agree that events like these are tragic, but there is clearly a bias towards white females.

I mean, one can never give up hope, but it is depressing that something that relatively old still beats out other stories of a similar nature based on a person's age, gender, race and appearance.

The difference is she was 3, and did nothing wrong, i feel little sympathy for those who got shot in South London, You see all their friends saying they never did anything wrong, then you hear they've done spells for burglary and are part of gangs, its there own fault how they ended up, its not the fault of a 3 year old girl that she has been abducted.

I agree that there are many things that do not get media attention that should, and there is a lot of hype with this now that everyone does not get, but you must live a very sad life to not want the girl to be found, for me she or anyone else can get as much media attention as they want cos it does not effect my life, and if it helps them then good luck, you can carry on just hating the world!!!

yeah, I remember that. Appearantly they caught the guy who abducted and killed her, but they have yet to recover the body.

Right now abcnews.com is leading a story about the police in Aruba's "surprise search" for new clues in Natalie Halloway's disappearance. If halloway isn't a perfect example of what I'm talking about, I dunno what is.

Yeah, the Holloway case is a perfect example of this. She dominated the news for at least 3 weeks because she was white and cute. I can honestly say I have never seen a missing person case on TV where the missing person was black. (Or Asian, Hispanic, etc. for that matter.)

Sorry kids. If you play the numbers, she's already dead. The only time a child this age survives an abduction is if (1) one of the parents did it/custody dispute, or (2) its organized crime, and there's a ransom demand.

It sucks, but the police should be doing a body search, not looking for a live girl.

I certainly don't associate myself with the comments of mekstizzle, and if you read what I said I feel like every child deserves the ammount of attention this case is getting, not just the cute white girl.

So many kids are abducted in Brazil and sold in Europe. It's sad. You seem to have to be European to get attention. Or American... But I think the reason why this came in the press is because people can relate to it, and people who watch the news can't relate to poor, desolate families who have just about enough to eat having their children bought/stolen off of them. Remember: the media just follows demand of the public.
