Strange topic, I know.

I see them off and on at work, and the topic came up tonight while a bunch of my friends were drinking. Ever seen one? Did it freak you out? Make you puke? Seems like most people have at least one interesting story. If so, let's hear it.

yep, my parents owned an RV park when I was a kid.  We had a lot of old people residing there.  over 10 years we probably had 4 or 5 folks pass away in their motor homes.

Nope, save that for the "ever had to flush your pet goldfish" thread.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Yes, when I was in high school we got an assignment for some class to go to the city morgue to interview that doctor in chief. We had to interview him about what was his school preparation to become a necrologist and he had some spare time and we (we went in teams of 3 to assigned interviews) got to see the necrologist perform 2 autopsies. One was a man in his 50's that was hit by a car and the other of a cirrhosis (because that man was an alcoholic).

To tell you the truth, the odor of the insides of a man has no comparison at all with anything. I was not afraid because I don't have homophobia nor necrofobia but a teammate started to lose color when the ribs were broken scissors, similar to those used to cut tree branches.

Strange that this topic has came up actually, last week I saw my first dead body(ies).

Got called to a job at a local travellers site, assisting social services. Forced entry to premises appeared to be vacant, proceeded to search the house and found a female lying on the bed. It didn't register at first and as I went closer the smell just knocked me back (and she'd only been dead 48 hours). Shouted my colleague to call it in, and when she came in the room she just asked straight away. "Have you checked the cot?" I just absolutely froze, found a 3 month old baby in there. I will never forget that as long as I live.

Had to stay with the bodies for another hour and a half until a doctor and coroner arrived. I don't know why it didn't seem to effect me at the time but it wasn't until after that I had a little cry to myself. Then my sgt said that they could send someone else to inform the family if I wanted but I felt that I had to go and that was a worse feeling than finding the bodies. They took it really well, better than I would have. It's still my first month in the Police and this was the first thing that really made me wonder if I can do this job.

All in all I'd say to anyone who hasn't seen a dead body, you're really lucky.

I'm a cop in Las Vegas, and I have seen a bunch. You are right, the smell of one that has been there for a while is something you can't describe and will never forget. You will get used to it though. First one I saw was a female in her 30's that shot herself in the head with a .357. Pretty gory. I felt kind of dizzy and sick at first, but I got over it. That stuff doesn't bother me at all now.

on a main street to home, one of them huge cemet trunks hit an old lady, she was down face down, and a woman with a blanket was walking towards her, i dont' recall were the driver was but the truck was still there with its door opened and the street was busy but everyone just kept on going. my first reaction was to get a snap shot wiht my digicam and put it on the internet.....i dont' know why i would think such a thing but i did. but no i did not manged to get a shot

No.

I saw both my great grandfathers. Can't really remember the first one as I was around (maybe younger) than 5 at the time. Then my other one when I was probably about 8. Luckily I haven't found any though.

more funerals than i like to admit.  while interning i got to go along with a deputy to photograph dead body after fatal car wreck.  i'll just say weird.  probably because it was just a dead body and no horror show.  but seeing an 18-year old laying on a metal bed brings shivers of its own.  being a deputy who currently works the jail (road sometime in the future) i try to look at as many deceased photos as i can to help me prepare.  sounds sick, but i have to do it if i'm going to be able to control myself when i come face to face with it.  seeing it is one thing, but seeing how it affects the family is a totally different thing.

Yeah, the younger the person is the more tragic. You really do get used to it though. I think that most of the time you see someone that is either mangled, shot to pieces or just really &*^*ed up that it almost doesn't look real.

Driving back with my family from my uncle's on Christmas Eve, on some 2 lane highway in the middle of the central valley.  Traffic comes to a stand still in front of some big ranch house in the middle of an orchard and a T-Intersection.  There's no way to go around, so dad shuts off the engine, and we hear loud, loud crying and "DOES ANYONE KNOW CPR?".  I said to myself "Oh god" and got out of the car, against my mother's wishes.  I walk past the car in front of me, to find a truck pulled over with the front end covered in blood and a slight impact, like it hit a deer.  Except 50 feet behind it was a motionless figure lying in blood.  A 19 year old girl, just older than me.  Her head and neck were twisted into an unnatural position, blood coming from the nose, mouth and ears.  CPR would have been useless, and I'm sure the crying woman (her mother) knew it too, as she collapsed with grief.   Her Husband came over to me and told me, it was okay, don't bother she's at peace.  The Paramedics arrived about 10 minutes later.  And I went back to my car to sit it out.  Merry Christmas.

Lots, but they're still creepy. My best friend in high school lived in a funeral home (his dad was a mortician). I'd stay at his place at least once a week and we'd always go check out the bodies laying in state or watch the embalmers working on people.
