Are the Progressive Democrats heavy pushers for Irish reunification? If I were in Ireland, I'd vote for either Fine Gael or the Progressive Democrats, but since I'm English I have to support the ones who aren't trying to wrest N. Ireland from the UK.
Probably Fine Gael would be your best bet - they're so fucking lame when it comes to Northern Ireland. It pains me to think about them getting into power.

Cam here's whats going to happen - Bertie's gonna get back into power and form a coalition government with the shinners.. (who you failed to mention are the only all Island of Ireland political party) and then they will start laying the plans in motion for reunification by 2016!!

It would be political suicide for them to join with Sinn Féin at this point in time. In 10 years maybe but joining up with Sinn Féin would alienate some of the more moderate supporters of the party...

No.  He works for the people who make the "electronic flight bag" work.

Plus he also hates Ryanair...which made me think of you.

We'll see!! - that's the trouble with Irish politics everyone thinks things are gonna happen maybe in 10 years time, like when  they said the IRA was never going to decommission (maybe in 10 years time), the DUP would never accept sharing power with the shinners (maybe in 10 years time) etc..etc..  Stricking the political anvil while the iron is hot so to speak would be politically expedient - look at what is happening in Scotland with the SNP; the union is gonna break soon..

Regardless who is voted in, it will be some socialist liberal. . . . .

My beloved Irish will continue to enjoy the benefits of the Euro, and thats that! I wish Ireland the best, as I am Irish, but I find it laughable that anyone they elect is going to seriously effect global politics.

For christs sake, they dont even own their entire country! I would focus on electing someone who promises to unite the island!!
Irish my hairy arse. You're an American and ostensibly the worst kind judging from your posts. I know not every American has a narrow minded, blinkered view of the world but you're proof that some do. This forum is choc full of topics on numerous countries if you'd care to look for them.

That's funny that you would vote for someone that would try to unite the Country because the people who have attempted that in the past have been deemed Terrorists by people like your beloved George Bush.

Well, I don't care if I sit on a box if I can get somewhere at a very low cost.  But some people are just spoiled I guess.

lol! I just find it funny that someone takes such time and energy to write a thread about an election that has ZERO international significance. . . .I am very open minded btw, and if we were to meet in person you probably would think I'm a pretty good guy with a variety of opinions. . . .but thats beside the point! I see there are tons of topics on these forums, but I'm not a forum troll like half of you guys. . . .

p.s. I am not a George Bush fan, I am a republican who couldnt ever vote for the likes of John Kerry or Al Gore, lets get that straight right now!

Seinn Fein IS the political wing of the IRA!! They turn a blind eye to terrorism! Cause they ARE terrorists!! I support a united Ireland, but these guys are nuts!! They are almost fucking communists!! Yet the Irish population gives these guys 10-15% of the vote!! Shows you how liberal your country is!!

I wouldnt vote for them at all! In fact from what I see, Northern Ireland is doing better as a British entity! All that nationalistic garbage they preach is "old school" crap that is meant to rile up the populace.  Things are good in Ireland right now, and I dont see them winning at all.

Northern Ireland will probably never go back to Irish control ever. . . .Which is too bad cause its sucks having part of your country ruled by someone else! I would like to see the Brits give Northern Ireland back as a sign of peace and good faith, but it'll never happen in my lifetime.  Either way the Irish are buying up half of London these days, so I guess it will all balance itself out. . . .

side note: my grandmother was (RIP) from Galway. . . guess that doesnt make me Irish at all. . . .

Look - if you see a topic that doesn't have USA in the tagline then don't enter then. That way everybody is happy. Don't care about the French election, find it irrelevant? Well don't bother reading about it or posting in any of the threads. It's quite simple really. The population of the US constitutes just 4.7% of the population of earth. A lot of us on the forum couldn't care less about whether some hicks in mid-west USA want the right to blow their neighbour away with a gatling gun but we put up with it. Have a bit of respect.

Doing better as a British entity? lol ...Have you ever set foot in your 'Mother' country. Northern Ireland is a stagnant strain on the British economy while independent Ireland is one of the great economic success stories of Europe with the lowest unemployment rate in the EU. Care to explain how Northern Ireland is doing better as part of Britain?

By the way the USA is a nation born from terrorism, you led an uprising against the British and still have the right to bear arms to this day so your terrorist militias can be armed in case the British attempt to resume hostilities. Subjectivity is great isn't it?

Excellent! I read in a newspaper a while back that a famous neo-nazi with a dubious history circa 1940 lives near me in Dublin! Ireland is also quite famous/infamous for its success at keeping out the Jews after WWII.

BULLOCKS OF THE WORLD UNITE!!!

Boooooo!

By the way, the Irish economy known as the Celtic Tiger has been one of the most stable and fastest growing economies in Western Europe for the last 10 years. The Irish Pound was valued higher than the US Dollar until Ireland switched to the Euro. The peace process relating to Northern Ireland has set many significant precedents relating to terrorism, land and human rights, and peace negotiations. For many years this process has had an impact on similar situations around the world (US war on terror, land and human rights allegations in Eastern Europe and Africa). Also, because of the strong economy immigration has been an issue in Ireland and thus, the country expresses an important point of view on the topic in the European Parliament. . . thus it plays a role (significant or otherwise) in world affairs.

Any way, back to the actual debate. I would like to add one more candidate to the list. Dustin the Turkey. He's a straight shooter who cares about all the lovely boys and girls of Ireland (despite what that duck says about him). He'd be a great Taoiseach.

"Go on you good thing!!!"

Lol, the UK would totally open up a can on Ireland. Wouldn't even be close.

Of course there won't be a war, but I'm just saying that if there ever were one, the UK would so easily blockade Ireland and then bomb the hell out of it.

Not that liberties weren't taken . . . but . . . watch Michael Collins. It's a good movie and it is a good depiction of what happened when the UK did actually go to war with Ireland.

Plus, some 230 odd years ago people said the same thing about a bunch of rag tag colonies across the Atlantic!

Do you even have and argument at all? Or do you just like to throw around insults at people who you don't agree with?

I do make less than 10 grand a year, and it's very hard to manage rent, bills, food etc and go to university on those kind of wages but I still manage to push on, while being taxed on everything I do (income tax, sales tax, petrol excise, tax on cigarettes etc). Surprisingly I don't mind taxation so much, so long as the government taxing spends the money on looking after it's citizens and building infrastructure to further their nation.

And the similarity between Tienamen Square man and Sinn Fein is that they both are fighting great injustices. T Square man was standing up to an un-communist dictatorship which treats it's citizens like crap (doing the right thing) and Sinn Fein is fighting for the the Irish to remove the English from Ireland.
