Now, we all know that viruses can be a bitch. And that your computer gets attacked a lot. But do you even use an anti virus? Or do you just hope, pray that no virus will ever harm or even get to your computer?

I use NOD32; it may not be the most intuitive, but it is by far the best. Barely any CPU usage, fast, clean and simple. It is probably one of those anti-viruses that are for the more advanced users. The ones who know what they are doing.
If you don't, then Kaspersky is the best bet.

So, lets see what you guys use.

Nothing. My computer really isn't worth it.

It took me 45 minutes of turning it off and on today to get it working.

Though my dad uses McAfee and it seems to work.

I thought AVG was out a doubt the best you could get.

Why would you say Nod32 or Kaspersky?  Avast is as good as anything costing money when it comes to protecting a computer, and CNet just gave it a 5 star rating.  Can the same be said of Nod 32 or Kaspersky?

Oh yea, and Avast is FREE

Edit:  And, Avast is ICSA certified ... last I checked, there wasn't a free antivirus out there other than Avast that was ICSA certified (but that was about a year ago)

Just go onto google and type in "best anti-virus". You shall see that that is incorrect.
AVG is an excellent FREE anti-virus. But it is not as good as Bitdefender and the sorts.

It only loses marks because of its shit control panel. But when you know exactly what you are doing, then it is the best.

I don't care if it is free or $5000, you can get anything on the internet. So why not go for the best?

Exactly.  Avast is ICSA certified ... the others you mention (to the best of my knowledge) are not ICSA certified.    How should I know which product will protect my computer the best?  But, it seems to me that if a product can't pass the ICSA tests, then there is cause for concern.

Edit:  I just checked  and Nod32 and Kaspersky are also both certified.

I hate Norton. It never EVER uninstalls right. They always keep some shit on your hard drive, running silently. Then when you use a program it doesnt like, it pops up again. I had to re-format my hard drive to get rid of it. Such a shit program.

Yes, most Anti-viruses are ICSA certified Orange.
I don't think most free ones have ... when I checked about a year or two ago, there weren't ANY free ones other than Avast that had passed.  Now it appears that a few have.

AVG for me. I USED to use Nortons but its crap. Nortons uses (shouldnt that be ABUSES??) system resources, regardless of the amount of memory u have running.....
1GB, 2GB Nortons wont care and will suck the lot on start up

I have F-Secure on my XP -computer and Norton on my Vista, as the F-Secure doesn't work with Vista.

Shred all its files. Search all the system folders, etc etc.

Then use NOD32 or Kaspersky on Vista. Work like a charm.

Most Aussie's use CA. It got really popular over here with their Vet brand, which got renamed to CA Trust. Its not bad, its about as bloat as AVG but much gooder.

The shop uses Trend Micro (hey, Hotmail does). I use AVG on my computers now coz I'm lazy, but we used to use F-Prot (by FRISK), its much like NOD32 on the bloat (300KB used ftw).

Of course no-one sells that over here (AFAIK)
