First I want to apologize if some people think that this should go in the Tech Forum, however I felt it should go here!

If possible I want to get stories and or numbers about how people have increased their accuracy and K/D ratio's etc by upgrading their rig!

Here is an old article that may help to explain the reasoning behind my question!

if u upgrade you'll be able to pick out an enemy from a further distance, see boat/plane trails and shit like that better therefore making it easier to find enemies. If you have shitty settings like me where everything is blocky and the distance is 50% its much harder to find the enemy which makes it harder to get kills compared to someone with good settings and 100% distance

My old computer was only able to run on medium at best....and at times i'd get kicked for "idleing" before i even started playing becuase it took the computer so long to load up.

my K/D was about .5 on avererage, getting killed by people i couldn't even see...choppers and 64player maps were off limits.  and at the end there it was non-stop jumpy lag.

Got a gaming computer, everything set to high and AA x4   My overall K/D ratio is over 2 now and 90% of my rounds I have 3x's more kills than deaths.

Oh and my accuracy has always been around 23%

After I got my x1950 pro and 1.5 gig then it just goes so well. While in heli I have improved 50% and my kd on karkand is now like 4:1 alomost evry round.

But I still have issues with the distance. I have set it to 100% but it only shows like 75%

It does make things better, one bad thing I've found is if your settings are all high, people can hide in shadows yet lower settings have non.

And the smoke(from buring vehicles etc) is great you think your hidden, but to someone with low settings your in clear view.

You just have to get used to playing and addapt to your higher settings, in the long run they do help.

My bro's computer, when we first made it, ran BF2142 on only low-med specs, and I hate that thing still.  things blurry as all hell, and FPS lag makes sniping a true pain.  Using my computer I run med/high and things are much easier to pull off...especially sniping/assault class where aim matters most.

Well on my rig at home I play well (very well, without wanting to sound arrogant), its a new(ish) rig runs BF2 at 85FPS+ usually sat at 100FPS.

I'm visiting family at the moment, using my bros rig to play, Athlon 3000+ only 1GB RAM and a geforce 6800, all low and its chugging along at about 25FPS. It makes kittens cry and I play like a fkin tard on it

So yeah I'd say a better rig can improve your game lol.

It's better to a good rig, but it will only enable you enjoy the game more.

At one point if you don't use your brain, it won't help to get a better score.

Personnaly, I play on a Laptop, a good one (I have a mix of medium and high settings), but still a laptop and I don't think I would score better on a desktop.

I think you should have some minimum, 1.5G to 2G of RAM will do wonders for you. As for the GPU, anything that have 128M and above will allow you to run the game at an acceptable level.

I play with a ball mouse, no mouse mat, 5600 gfx card, 1gig of ram. I average 40 FPS (1-3 While frapsing), an I play perfectly fine and still rape the face of people with £2000 rigs.
It wont make you a better player, you'll be able to see slightly further probably. whooo

NO THANKS!!!    i WANT stories about what people have experienced when upgrading, not what you think MIGHT happen!

I run the game on lowest settings on my comp (except draw distance which i've put up to 100%), and it runs ok. For those people that have low fps playing on medium, play it on low ffs.
The only problems i have performance-wise is that 2142's new explosions slow my game right down (ie top about 2-3 fps when the explosion is happening. and that includes supply crates exploding), the blurring effect that comes with shell shock or using the IT-33, which both give me low fps as well, and looking at titan shield when they're being shot at.

Now, whenever i go to my friends house, i play the game with everything on high. And it annoys the hell out of me a lot of time. Its those bloody shadows. Places in the game that are perfectly visible on mine are soooooo dark on his that i get killed when i wouldn't have done on low. However everything else looks nice so i'm sure if i got a decent comp and put everything on high except all the lighting effects it'd improve my game a bit. Not much though, its mostly just eye candy.

I used to run a horrible computer where id lagg unbareably over everything LOW and everything DISABLED with 0x AA

I now run everything on high. with all enabled. and I can snipe sooo much better because of the new colors and detail, and can nail a head and dont even have to think about it...

When I first had bf2, I had some 2.0 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, GeForce 5700 128MB, and some slow shitty 20GB hard drive. I had every single thing on low, and it still was pretty laggy. Then I got a new computer, everything on high, with no lag. it was sooooo much easier to get kills and aim. Good computer will make you do much much better. But this isnt true for everyone, as there are some rpetty retarded people out there.

Thats funny HeavyMetal!

LOL, I'm looking to upgrade, just trying to figure out what to upgrade.  Or to get a whole new machine!!  But that is a whole other can of worms I don't need to open right now!

Bottom line: Having a better system is going to give your natural skills a little boost. Better system = less lag, smoother gameplay, more visibility, etc. All of those added together should make it easier to play the game. But if you're asking if you should spend money just to have a higher virtual stat number... then all I can do is laugh and tell you how pathetic you are.

lol, that would be pathetic!  I'm just thinking about upgrading to help speed up video production etc.  But just wondering how much I might benefit, and other do people benefit from "SUPER UBER RIGS"  when playing BF 2142!
I'm also kind of wondering if my current system will be able to play the new "Enemy Territory?"

When i upgraded my rig from:

Pentium 4 2.2 Ghz
512 Mb ram
ATi 9??? GE 256 mb

To:

Core 2 Duo  E6600
2 Gb ram
Nvidia 7900 GTO 512mb

I went from 20-40 fps in CSS & HL2 (lowest gfx) to 200-300fps (highest gfx) i became a noob again.. i was so used to the lagfest that i could'nt aim without it for the first two weeks
EDIT: after that i went to über l33t

(Yes i know my old pc was pathetic ^^     - Getting Nvidia 8xxx when crysis comes out :])

I play on my laptop, which has 1GB RAM and a 2.0 GHZ processor and ATI Radeon Xpress 200 graphics card and all the setting on low and i lag here and there, but i can play 32 man servers and i can see 88%. Also, my k/d ratio is 1.8

Hmm sure it help out abit with a top notch rig although in my own experience a mouse will make a greater difference.
