it is NOT fire and forget, it was in the beta but they have changed it for the full patch !! you still have to maintain your LOCK on whatever you are trying to shoot down !

Like i said above, they are not fire and forget, so you will have to hold down your fire button after you fire the 2nd (last) shot, or else the missles will lose lock due to the launcher reloading..

And you will not hit anything if you launch from a retarded angle/if the gunship is flying faster than the missles (ofc.)....

Yeah before BionicSeaHorse i was going to tell you people that, unlike the beta patch, the proper patch changelog states that they still require a constant lock, presumably from it being way too overpowered in the beta.

So yeah you're not using it right.

the saaw rocks man, you just have to know how to use it, ok so you can just fire and forget, thats if the gunship is flying in a straight line, but i find its best to keep track of your enemy in your sights, your have a better KDR with the saaw then

yeah, when you fire head on at a ship that is going over top of you, you never hit it, even in BF2, you have to shoot straight at it with it moving right at you, or shoot at it when it is moving away.  Also, you cant shoot at it when it is moving very quickly from one side to the other, the missiles will move a little, but then miss behind the ship

try getting better, and stop flaming the weapons

I rarely used the SAAW before the patch. I can honestly only remember using it once to not such great results.

Yesterday, after reading this thread, I went into game to try it out. It worked great, sure it didn't take a gunship out with a couple shots, and the pilots were smart enough that after a couple shots with the SAAW they retreated to get repaired. I didn't get any kills that round but come next round I took out a gunship from halfway across the map. Though it was quite delayed, that led me to believe that the rockets were actually following the gunship until impact.

So far the new patch gets two thumbs up from me. They've tweeked an otherwise completely useless gun to make it worthwhile in certain situations.

It's too situational. I would like it if it could dumfire, to inflict damage upon ground vehicles, but with reducded damage compared to conventional weapons, pilum etc. Then i might actually use it

your angles of attack sucked, like someone said before. had you been patient and waited until they were lined up correctly you would have gotten a lot more kills.
