You can try variations of your name, i.e. with numbers, symbols, prefixes, etc., such as I#R#1337#HOWITZER

Where did you get BF2?  Did you purchase it in a store?  Get it used off eBay?

Edit:

Problem - Invalid CDKEY when trying to join a server
Cause - Unencrypted CDKEY or bad Key
Fix - First Try this Program
If that does not help, Use battlefield2_code.exe to re-enter your CDKEY, this can be located in the support folder of where you installed battlefield 2 on your Hard-Drive.
After re-entering your CDKEY you must then reapply the latest patch in order for it to be encrypted into the registry.

That's good (wouldn't want you to end up with a used copy that has had the CD Key banned).  You probably, then, just have an encryption problem.  In my previous post, I included some instructions that should help you overcome this problem.  Let us know how you fared.

Just install it again ... it should overwrite the previous installation (I believe).
