They only work if people actually use them.

So it is a good idea to at least click on one ad every time you visit and open it in a new tab or window. You get a couple of cents depending on whether the ad is a CPC (cost-per-click) or CPM (cost per thousand impressions) ad. So either way Chuy gets something if you click those Google Ads.

Just think if 1% of those 21 million clicked an ad, and each ad gave 1 cent per click, that would be 21,000 cents or $210 a day x 30 days = $6,300 per month.

Google is paying for it. Who is paid by advertisers. Who are paid by you. Works out nice. The donations for the last ... two months, I think ... currently cover about 1/3 the server price.

No - that would be fscking nuts. Page views per day is just over 1 million. Uniques, I think, was at about 30-50,000. I don't quite recall that metric though, so take it with a grain of salt.

I'm not surpised by this, when you started out Chuy you had a VERY basic website, over the months I've noticed the wesbite and everythign has very quickly picked up pace. You've done some great work with the website and establishing the stats system as a whole.

Banners that pay for a service is fine by me, especially when they are as unintrusive as they are on BF2s.com.

New hardware seems sweet... although I have not noticed the need for it myself. The bandwidth issues of course is a problem but the speed as been great. There are lots of sites out there that grinds down to a halt from time to time but BF2s almost never does that for me as is. Then again, if it ain't broke... tweak it.

They do. They're pretty out of the way too, which is what blows my mind about it. I'm contemplating adding a small google ad under the TableOfContents in the wiki. Maybe, not sure if it's needed or not. (I rather despise ads, but they pay 'da bills.)

The ads blend in beautifully, I'm rather ashamed to admint it, but I once clicked on one thinking it was a link to some unknown bf2 medal.

Chuy... have you thought about clustering your site to improve performance? Or would that double the connection costs?

This site is the best BF2 site I have found for stats and site design. Forums are very solid and growing. TotalBF2 is another regular click for me, but I much prefer your design. 21 *million* hits... wow.

Clustering? No. Not yet. If anything, I'll first split the DB off from the webserver. After that the images would be split off to another server. After that I might begin considering database replication but that's -- well, that's not till BF3
