I managed to wipe many with a magnet when I was 5. Then again it was a bit more powerful than a fridge one

maybe it would have enough power to wipe a floppy, but you actually need a really powerful electromagnet to wipe an actual hard drive.  My friend tried with like.. every magnet he could find and he couldn't wipe his hard drive.
