Gun ownership in the US is not going to become illegal any time soon. We can argue stats or personal opinions and compare vastly different societies, but in the end it does nothing. We (the US particularly) need to take steps for these types of things to become less and less prevalent.
Gun Control DOES work! People, you are willing to give up your personal privacy freedoms for a supposed threat, but not willing to give up certain freedoms in relation to guns?
This goes to anyone here who owns a gun - Would you have a problem with government mandated check-ups on your gun? Would you have a problem with monthly/semiannual/annual visits to your house by the ATF&E to make sure your guns were properly secured?
Guns are obtained illegally, without a doubt. Gun control legislation can stop these guns from being obtained. As I said before, in a post nobody seems to care about, we need to stop people from supplying illegal guns. There are two main ways weapons are obtained on the black market- people with clean records (friends, wives, relatives) buying guns for people that can't (felons); and people stealing guns from legal owners. Let's be rational and logical about how we can at least minimize these two ways.
Require gun safes/secure areas for all gun storage. Require annual check-ins/check ups for gun owners. That will stop a good amount of gun-related crime.
Acquire a database of all gun purchases. That will stop me from going to 10 different gun shops and loading up on 10 different weapons that I will then sell downtown to people I have never met.
Require gun manufacturers to implement more secure, traceable features in their product. As I said earlier, we can have GPS in our cell phones and cars, but not a weapon?
The problem is, like I said before, that the NRA (the nut-jobs in it anyway) see any type of gun legislation as bad legislation. That is not the case. It takes us as citizens to make sure that our rights are not trampled by those that abuse the right.
Anyone disagree?
Ok guys, now that you read this, keep on wasting breath about how gun ownership should be illegal in the US. That is not happening in our lifetimes, so keep providing those statistics, which all you have manipulated to serve your own ideals.
