this is truly a sad day, yet again in America.  i was watching CNN and so far they stated that 22 people have been murdered and 29 have been wounded.  this is the worst school shooting in U.S. history.  what i want to know is what ball-less fuck goes onto a campus, where no weapons are allowed, and starts killing unarmed innocent people.  this individual is truly a sick twisted individual, and i hope he burns in hell for what he / she did.  all the more reason i have a ccw permit.  some of the people that i know ask me why i carry all the time... well this is just one more example why i feel the need to carry.  my prayers go out to those who were killed and injured and their families.

Surely there would be some form of campus security ?

Or can you just walk into these places ?

Above all, my utmost compassion with those who lost someone in there.

I'm just summing up some things:

In the US, guns seem to be obtained easily. There are many shootings. Yet, people don't see any reason in the lax gun laws. Strangely enough, such shootings are mostly caused by people who do not only possess one weapon for the very purpose of killing other people but they possess several. They know how to shoot, otherwise they couldn't go un such killing sprees (and no, you can't learn shooting a weapon from wikipedia).
Now, what if security staff at a university was allowed to carry guns? They'd be shot down in first place. A guy killing 20 others does not really seem to care about the life of innocents, right?

Now, this is one radical view, I know. And it's possibly too simple - still, I have to ask why we haven't had any shooting at universities and schools yet and this without any kind of security staff.

You can shoot with your middle finger too, but that's another story.

this is a sad day, and my condolences go out to the families of those killed- yes, including any next of kin of the gunman, asusming the gunman is dead.  aftrte all, it muist be horrifying to know that you son/daughter has goe inot a school and shot innocent people. of course, if they support what the bastard did, then I feel no sorrow for them.

as for the debate on gun laws- please keep the debate out of this thread, and as for campus security- they think that is what could have finally killed the gunman.

I'd like to think this would be classified as possible homegrown terrorism similar to that guy who blew up the Oklahoma building or something. Or is it?

we know less than nothing right now.  we shouldnt jump to conclusions.  reports are always sketchy from events like this the first few hourse.  especially when all the news networks want the most senstational headline.  who knows what the fuck is going on.  maybe it was a shoot out.  maybe it was a disgruntled employee.  maybe it was gang related.  maybe it was terrorism.  its WAY to early to make any educated guesses.  Terrorism follows a message,  what message was sent here?

This jerkoff poured acid all over a playground and it severely burned a 2 and 1/2 year old boy.  Should we ban acid?

Bad analogy, since episodes with acid are very unusual.

Hmm, yeah you have a point. There didn't seem to be any political message here, especially since it was an Academic institution that was attacked. It's more likely it was something psychological or to put it blunt some people over there were just pissing him off the the breaking point. It's a shame because there isn't much you can do to stop these kinds of things, except for the people who are responsible for the Students/Pupils to find the problem early on before it festers into something wild. And it's always that much harder when it's a University.

Perhaps.  However,  the fact remains that we hear yelling about banning guns and calls for more laws when there is a disturbed human being who is to blame . . . not the weapon used.

I'd rather take my chances with a disturbed individual without a gun than a disturbed individual with one.

i'm sure the fact that "disturbed individuals" have easy access to guns doesn't help matters much? Anyways I digress - Tragic for all those family's concerned.

And if he couldn't have grabbed a gun, do you think he wouldn't have grabbed something else to kill someone? Oh, wait, nothing else kills people...

For those of you already bashing the gun-happy people of the United States:
The United States has the best, fastest acting/reporting press in the world. That's why you keep hearing about this sort of thing from this country. If someone takes a dump in this country PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD hear about. Since there are 300 million + people living in the US, that's a lot of DUMPS you'll hear about.

Why don't horrible things happen in China? THEY DO! They just don't have the same press freedom over there.

These are the tactics supposedly used by police

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/16/campus … index.html

And I want to point out an excellent point it makes in that as many college campuses are open campuses, it is hard to provide very in depth security, the police just have to react to situations and they don't know what they are going to be facing (how many gunmen, how well armed each is, etc.)

No matter what, it's a terrible tragedy and as everyone has said, only sick people do such things.

Let me say that this kind of episodes are reported even in Africa.
