What do you think of the m240? What is the general consensus of people who have used the weapon?GunSlinger OIF II wrote:

Or has the thing not even come into service yet? I like firearms as well as the next guy, but the m240 looks like a beauty.
That, and I think the HK 416 is only going to Socom, which is irritating, more government bureaucracy in motion. XM8 should have been going too. Now, the XM8 is canceled, which is a shame, that thing looked like a beauty.
And heres another question, do any soldiers carry bayonets on their rifles?
And yes, Delta Force exists, but they're officially called "Special Operators" because (shhh) nobody knows they exist for sure. Mainly because bureaucrats in Washington have refused to acknowledge their existence publicly.
And M14 pwns, but I'd still want an AK. With a bayonet.
i carried a m249 also, i loved that bitch. the guys in my squad were amazed at how accurate and reliable it can actually be. you just need to take care of it and it'll run like a raped ape. i've had some experience with the 240g, i got to shoot it and strip it. it seams like a descent weapon, but i wouldn't want to hump that damn thing!!GunSlinger OIF II wrote:
oh no, thats news to me. ive dabbled with the 16a2/a4 and the m4 in terms of being a rifleman. but, i was AR (automatic rifleman, one step below MG, the SAW) for the most part of my infantry career. Im also the only person that I know who absolutley loves that m249. majority of soldiers/marines i know hate that weapon. that other weapon theyre talking bout sounds like its coming into play in SO world. SO always gets everything first. EVERYTHING. they tweak and play with it till its just right before they give it the go ahead and send it down to conventional forces.
the 240 IS a beauty and it is fielded, has been for a while. The army uses the 240B and the marines use the 240G. i iwsh i knew the difference. bayonets are carried depending on unit SOPThe_Mac wrote:

the 240C is a coaxial weapon. you mount it on the turret of an armored vehicle like a tank or a brad. difference between that and the bravo is the rounds feed through the opposite sides. and no buttstock on the golf.

I think the last time I saw it was March 1996. Sad day when it left.GunSlinger OIF II wrote:

Coast Guard still uses the m60, I believe. They mount it on their patrol boats. But yeah, they need to get new, light, reliable firearms into Iraq ASAP.
they are actually re-fitting the m-60 and putting it to use again. they redesigned parts of the upper receiver so it wouldn't malfunction.
I don't understand why they'd still use the m60. Haven't SAWs like the m249 and m240 superseded it?
takes alot of money and time to distribute weapons for replacement. they diffuse the older weapons into lesser branches gradually, such as the reserves and national guard. Plus the M60 from what i've heard is a good weapon, with the new versions coming out it's becoming an even better weapon.The_Mac wrote:

Ah I see that. So now that the 416 is only coming to Socom, and the XM8 is effectively canceled, what can we do? Will the next gun be automatic? Whats your opinion on full auto?
it depends on how accurate the rifle is on full auto.The_Mac wrote:

Noobs? The M240 is based off the BAR, which the M60 was meant to replace.usmarine2005 wrote:

The BAR pwns. It was sort of like a cross between an assault rifle and a SAW
According to my wiki-research, it's the original SAW, used as an assault rifle was meant to be in an era of semi-auto weapons.
And just so happened to be very accurate and convinient to use, on top of that.

Yes noobs.Skorpy-chan wrote:

yeah, the BAR wasn't issued per person, maybe every 5 people. The Marines certainly used it a ton in their Island Hopping. Army was more M1 Garands and Thompsons, from what I've read. but I'm probably wrong.Skorpy-chan wrote:

M3 Grease Gun ftw!
It was basically a Battle Rifle. Like the M14 (full auto variant), G3, FN FAL etc...The_Mac wrote:

That's the term i've heard. Basically a Battle Rifle is an Automatic firearm or Selective fire firearm that fires full rifle rounds (as apposed to 5.56 or 7.62 short) and usually has only 20 rounds in the mag. Whereas Assault Rifles are firearms that fire shorter, smaller rifle rounds.

never in my 6 years as an infantryman in the United States Army have I ever heard that term "Battle Rifle". we call weapons that are a step about rifle and below MG's automatic rifles. for example a saw gunner in an infatry squad is not gonna be called the "battle rifleman", hes gonna be called the AR.
thats like saying these are killer bullets and these right here are life bullets.

Then obviously you haven't done much shopping for millitary-grade firearms in that 6 years.
"military-grade"Skorpy-chan wrote:

why would i go searching for bastardized civilian weapons when i get paid to shoot the real thing.
He's a solider for god sake! He's been to Iraq! He's proberbly even seen uber secret lazers...military grade ones!Skorpy-chan wrote:
