If you're going to post an article and call it news...please check to make sure it is news.

News is generally anything containing factual wording.  It can still be heavily biased, and this can be found by checking on the author.

Editorials or Op-Eds are generally found in the same sources as news, but are not news.  These are opinions that don't need "fact checked".  People can and do literally write anything they want in them, lying early and often (creative liberty) in order to prove whatever point they are trying to make.  Both columnists and John Q. Public can write an editorial and news sources will print them.   Editorials are generally labeled as such.  Entire magazines can be based solely on editorials.

Editorials are generally no more reliable as a news source as Star Trek is as a science source.

Occaisionally, a legitimate news anchor/writer will give his opinion on a story separate from telling the story itself.  This is called editorializing, and a good news agency will label it as such.  Fox News doesn't, ever, even inventing new forms of sneaky editorializing like the "Cavuto mark".

Feel free to share your stories, but please label them as such.

Are you gonna single somebody out?
Seems a rather broad generalization that could be owned by only a handful of threads.

Just a question, but does this mean that whenever someone posts something you don't like it's going to be labeled as an 'editorial?'

Might as well shut down this section then, or ban links.

No, just sayin' when you post an editorial, don't call it news.  Has nothing to do with what I personally like or don't like, its just royally annoying to see a mistake generally fixed in most high school english classes repeated here, twice in as many days now.  I realize that fact and opinion have become jumbled due to the general right-wing dumbing down machine, where facts are suddenly subjective things open to debate.  But please, no more insulting of anyone's intelligence with simply grabbing an opinion piece and presenting it as news to be debated as such.

i think that may be me. check out the "protesters" thread. i used an article from foxnews.com .... which he is clearly denouncing here. you really gotta read the whole thread to understand how bad it is for him. you see, he believes that the black panthers were a conservative, right-leaning organization..... wow, as someone else put it in the thread, ive never laughed so hard at the idea.

What?  The Fox News link in the OP isn't an editorial piece...

I was wondering when that would come up in your OP. I was getting ready to be surprised, but then there it was.

What he means is that an Editorial is by definition an article where the author(s) expresses his/hers own personal views and opinions. Think of it as an essey.

News article is an article where an author gives information about an event, incident, sports match etc. They can also by biesed and full of bullshit but in other way. Its done by NOT giving some information and/or giving false information.

In better magazines and news papers there are 2 seperate staffs. One that writes news and one that writes editorials. And they dont mix.

Fadedsteve's topic-

Look at the title....READ THE ARTICLE - when it clearly is an editorial

Not a blatant attempt to post an editorial as an article, but I could see where there could be confusion

That is just in the last 5 days.  It has happened much more, and not just by one group.

To me it is akin to posting an article from FOX News, WorldNetDaily, Washington Times, etc.

I never claimed my post was news . . . rather it's commentary on the event.  Plenty of people post editorial articles and unless one is a complete moron reading the post, it's obvious what is commentary and what is news.  Seems to me that this is the debate and serious talk section . . . that includes news and editorials.

Granted, but I wouldn't ask anyone to change their posts.  If some can't swim in the deep end, they should provide their own waterwings.

If you cant tell the difference between someone giving you the news and someone giving you an opinion you deserve to be duped.

(Disclaimer:That was an opinion)

Most of the Black Power movement had a connection to militant Islam.  Islamism is very conservative.  So is militancy in general.

Granted, there are cases of militant liberalism like the Zapatistas and some Communists.

The Black Panthers could be seen as conservative because of their racially separatist ideology.  Separatism is generally a conservative viewpoint, even if it's in opposition to what the Republican party stands for.

Philosophical conservatism is a bit different from mainstream conservatism.
